About the Dudley Farm Historic State Park
Dudley Farm Historic State Park, located at 18730 West Newberry Road in Newberry, Florida, is a unique institution that offers visitors a glimpse into farm life as it was over a century ago. This National Historic Landmark is not a re-created farmstead but an authentic working Florida farm that showcases the evolution of farming in the state.
Established by Phillip Benjamin Harvey Dudley Sr. before the Civil War, the farmstead was further developed by his son, P.B.H. Dudley Jr. The park features eighteen original buildings dating back to the 1880s and 1930s, including a restored family farmhouse with original furnishings, a kitchen, general store, post office, and cane syrup complex.
Visitors can experience hands-on activities such as plowing the garden, pumping water, grinding corn, and feeding the chickens. Staff and volunteers dressed in period farm clothing perform chores, raise crops, and tend to livestock including cracker cows, horses, bronze turkeys, and heritage breed chickens.
In January 2021, Dudley Farm Historic State Park was designated as a National Historic Landmark for its exceptional ability to illustrate the history of owner-operator farms in the southern U.S. in the late 19th and 20th centuries. A memorial plaque was unveiled at the park in December 2021, recognizing its historical significance.
Overall, Dudley Farm Historic State Park offers a fascinating and educational experience for visitors interested in the history of Florida farming and rural life.

Reviews of Dudley Farm Historic State Park
"If you would like to learn and experience life on a family farm over 100 years old, I would sooo recommend this historic staye park. The buildings stand from what I understand where they have and each recreating the work and use as they were back then. The store that is next to the house was initially put by the main road. Each building has a function and a story. The house is just amazing to be in and brings me back to earlier times. There is a great deal to see.what is especially nice is the land quite sprawling, green grass with horses, cows, and chickens that look well taken care of. There's a store with handmade items, books, jams, hot sauce, pure cane maple syrup, and a variety of really neat and different handmade items. At the entrance, there are restrooms and an area with picnic benches. I love the serenity i experience each time and the feeling that I don't have to rush. It's astounding how much work was needed to keep this farm. There is so much more to see and so worth going and enjoying. Make time to enjoy!"
"We checked to see what we could do that was interesting, and Dudley Farm Historic State Park came to mind. The fee to get in was $5.00 per car, and it was the honor system - you put the ticket on your rear view mirror. There's plenty of parking. There were restrooms right by the parking lot, but nowhere else. There were lots of different buildings with different purposes and old fashioned equipment and machinery. There was a short video about the history of the place. A gentleman named Pete played his fiddle. There were lots of artifacts on display. The whole place took about 2+ hours to walk around and look at everything. There were plants for sale. There was also a store that listed food/drinks for sale, but it wasn't open when we went by. There were some people working there who were informative. It was pretty amazing to see how they used to live and the structures they lived in. Lots of trails and open grassy areas. But be mindful of your kids as there are thorny vines growing around the ground. There are 2 turkeys and about 7 chickens. This is a pretty cool place to check out. I'd go again and I'd recommend you go, it is worth the cost to see a piece of history."
"After 7 years of working Saturdays, I FINALLY got to go to the sugar cane harvest at Dudley Farm. Like everything they do, it was a historic reenactment of the cane harvest and processing prior to mechanization. If you are interested in seeing Florida history go to Dudley."
"Great small state park. Enjoyable for younger children. The walking trail is a short loop that can be done quickly. Nice clean restrooms and the staff is always friendly."
"Dudley Farm Historic Park offers a captivating glimpse into Florida's agricultural past. Its beautifully preserved historic buildings and lush surroundings provide a picturesque backdrop for a journey back in time. While exploring the farm, I encountered a friendly and vocal turkey that added a charming, unexpected touch to the experience. The guided tours are informative and engaging, shedding light on the region's rich history. It's a delightful destination for history enthusiasts and nature lovers alike, with well-maintained trails and serene landscapes. Dudley Farm is a hidden gem that's definitely worth a visit"
