Reviews of St Andrews Academy of Early Learning INC
"My two children ages 1 and 3 attended this facility for roughly 4 months. After the first week I was frantically putting our names on every available waiting list in the PC area. I want other parents to be aware and make an informed decision. A huge thing here is the overwhelming unwelcoming feeling. A feeling of pure uncomfortableness. If you tour the facility you will instantly understand what I am speaking of. No one walks you through what their processes are, what your child’s day consists of, where to put their belongings, etc. If you do ask a question, ABOUT YOUR CHILDREN, you are answered with dirty looks and vague answers. Obviously, I do not expect a minute by minute run down of my child’s day. I do expect to have a certain level of care provided and that includes basic updates about my children. As time went on, I was realizing a very real concept; if I had to take my child to a doctor and answer the most basic of questions, I would be unable to do so. Does she nap? I don’t know. How is her fluid intake? I don’t know. How are her eating habits? I don’t know. How is her learning progressing? I don’t know. How are her social skills? I don’t know. I knew NOTHING about my children’s day to day life and no one was forthcoming with that information. Even after speaking with the director repeatedly and requesting written daily updates… If you are reading this review it is quite likely that you are struggling to find care for your children in a post hurricane city. Not the easiest thing to do. I get it! Because if this I regretfully downplayed quite a few red flags. My older child (3) never talked about her day. Never mentioned colors, letters, shapes, games, NOTHING. She never wanted to go to school. Most children at this age love “school”. I started really looking around. There are no recent projects hanging, social media isn’t updated, heck parents aren’t even updated, regular artwork was never sent home. I NEVER SAW ANY EVIDENCE OF CURRICULM BEING TAUGHT. I never witnessed the children separated either. When I say this, I am referencing the age groups. I never once witnessed the older children in VPK being taught or even separated from the younger children (2’s and threes) They were always grouped together. The “teachers” would hang out to the side discussing their personal lives while the children entertained themselves in a falsely glorified overpriced playpen of a facility. This leads me to the environment. Upon picking my children up every day they were FIFLTY. I’m not talking about normal kid dirty; I’m stating my children were disgusting. These bad habits began showing through at home. My children would resist washing their hands. Resist picking anything up. My three-year-old was becoming more aggressive and regressing in her vocabulary skills. Regularly screaming “gimmie!” and pushing. It was comparable to how animals would behave in the wild when they needed to survive. Absolutely no BASIC social skills were being taught. No conflict resolution, no manners, nothing. Hand washing is not a thought at this center. BUGS. Yup, I typed the worst word imaginable, BUGS. My children were coming home COVERED in bug bites. Upon questioning the daycare, everyone denied it. Fast forward to when I pulled my children from the center-during my meeting with the owner- she stated to me that they have had quite the bug problem! So much so that she had a very expensive exterminator come and treat the yard. The kids couldn’t go outside for a week! I WAS LIVID. AGAIN, NO MENTION OF THIS TO PARENTS, EVER! How are you not going to close the facility and properly handle a public safety issue? Or, at the VERY LEAST, mention to the parents that there is an issue. But not mentioning it at all and then finding out later that my kids didn’t even go outside for a whole week?! Furious. Unfortunately google has a character limit, I posted a far more in depth review on their fb page."
"I trusted the center to have my child's well being in their best interest and was sadly let down. My child was severely injured while in their care and although they may have notified me of my child hurting themselves they they neglected to see the severity of the incident and assured us that my child was okay to stay and did not need to be picked up. Later in the day when I arrived to pick up my child after work I instantly got sick upon seeing that my child was very much in need of medical attention and rushed to the hospital to find out my child had a broken bone. I am not by any means blaming the daycare for my child hurting themselves but I definitely feel as though they were not very mindful in the aftermath."
"Rude director.when removing my my kid from this daycare she didn't even try to see why she just smirked at ne and said "yeah well we need payment for this week" i politely paid and she had the nerve to snatch my money order and walk off....they continued to lose my childs things and when confronted about it they said they'd replace it and never did..but the space heater on top of a bookshelf was it for me! i didnt feel my child was safe here at this daycare."
"I have three children that have gone here, two still do and the staff here is just amazing! They treat your child like family. They do a beyond wonderful job being patient and caring with my son who is more then a handful, and made it easy for me to transition my infant into childcare which was very hard but there so wonderful with her also! Highly recommend this daycare!"
"My son (4 years old) only lasted 4 days! At first I thought he was just being shy but the by 3rd day as I was saying bye, he looked at me with desperation and said "Please don't leave me here" and started crying. From the beginning I noticed when I got down to his level to say goodbye every morning that the carpet always smelt like urine. They also did not have an open door policy (if they did I felt like I was not welcomed to be there unless dropping off and picking up). I asked him every time I picked him up what he did and he said "play" I would ask "did you draw?" he said "no" I asked "did you say abc's?" he said "no" I asked "did you sing?" he said "no" I asked "well what did you do all day?" He says "play" and that was every day! So academey of early learning?? I don't think so. When I was there I would stay about 5 or so minutes until he got his breakfast because he would say he didn't want to go to "school" (even though I know he loved his old child care and would get mad when it was the weekend) and I didn't feel the staff were friendly and I felt the kids were neglected. At first I though maybe it's just because it's the morning and people dropping off and staff just getting in ... but after my child's reaction and not wanting to go to "school" I think otherwise."
