"Nice little park. Well kept."
"Been living in this neighborhood for many years. Fun place for the kids. Small track to walk your dog, and equipment to work out!"
"Park was spacious for kids to play and dogs to run around. Park provides doggy waste disposal bags but one was completely empty. It has benches to sit but only one picnic table. It also has some exercise equipment to use which is a nice added touch. Our main problem that we encountered were the homeless individuals. One took over the entire picnic table area which my family of 6 wanted to sit and eat lunch at. The other homeless man became very rude, belligerent and threatening when another dog (not ours) ran towards him. He didn’t like when the dog ran up to him so the owners ended up exchanging words with the homeless man. This is not what someone expects when going to the park with their family. The homeless man was upset that the owner was allowing his dog to run around the park. Mind you, there was only three dogs at the park at that time so it wasn’t even crowded. Not the most pleasant experience for our first trip there."
"Rose's Garden is named for community activist Rose Shomer who moved to Hollywood in 1945. She was known to keep an eye on her neighborhood and alert the city if anything was amiss. After living in her home for 65 years, Rose sold it to the city of Hollywood in 2010 for $59,4000 so it could be turned into a park. The acre park on the corner of Monroe Street and 24th Ave. is made up of 5 lots that were purchased by Rose's parents and that used to belong to Rose and her siblings. The city had long wanted to put a park in this area to give the neighborhood children somewhere to play. In 2012 at the age of 93, Rose attended the ribbon cutting ceremony at the park name for her. The park cost around $700,000 to build with $213,000 come from the city. The rest of the money was provided by grants from Broward County and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The park was designed to be eco-friendly and was the first of it's kind for the city. It was created to be low maintenance and low cost. Solar lighting and a rainwater cistern for irrigation were added. The playground has a fabric shade cover and surrounding it is a walking path and five exercise equipment stations. The park also has a picnic table, trash recycling compactor, native plants, and recycled plastic benches. There is no parking here so it is definitely a neighborhood park. The city is taking good care of it and it looks great. I think Rose would be glad to know that on the day I visited, her park was being enjoyed by a young boy and his mother."
"It's great except there is too much dog poop. Kids run around barefoot and shouldn't have to think about stepping in feces. It would be nice to have a gated run for dog owners to let their dogs off leash like they already do and to walk them in a certain area so our children can run freely. Otherwise it is a beautiful park."
