Reviews of Amelia Island Museum of History
"Small museum with exhibits lacking an overall timeline. One section was regarding the old jail, another section regarding shrimp farming, etc., but overall lacking a connection between the exhibits. Also, interesting events like the building of the railroad were only covered on a very shallow basis. For $10 a person, it was overpriced. As an alternative, I would highly recommend the boat tour to Cumberland Island. On the tour, we learned more about the history of Amelia Island and the surrounding area."
"It's nice, but very small and kind of pricey. They have a docent program that provides a lecture, but even so, not sure 10 bucks per adult is a fair price for about five small rooms total of exhibits. Not a waste of time per se, but in hindsight I would choose something else to spend my money and time on."
"Cute little museum. It's fun to go for a day trip to go look around. We also did the Christmas home tour while we were there. And it was just something to do different. But we enjoyed it. It's reasonably located close to the downtown area for a shopping and local restaurants. Great place to hang out. I would recommend this place anyone to have a good day. Or to even just go for a short visit."
"Great place to learn the history of Amelia Island. The volunteer guides do an impressive job walking you through the museum. Learn both good and bad stories of the island. Great way to spend a few hours out of the heat. They also have activities for kids."
"Cute quick history of the town. Good visual interactions. They have a replica mail since it was the old jail house with many old notes and insights into how it was like to live in that town in historical times. They have a scavenger hunt to keep the littles interested. I enjoyed the physical interactive concepts to help engage and remember the historical lessons being told. The staff are friendly and cheerful."
