Reviews of Keys History & Discovery Center
"There’s so much to learn about the history of Robbie’s Marina - Islamorada Florida Keys, shipwrecks, pirates, hurricanes, pineapple farming, and more. Some of the artifacts dates back to a 16th-century bronze cannon, El Infante Anchor, sunken treasures, and Spanish coins! This is a family friendly place and super cool experience to do with little kids and anyone who wants to learn about the history and culture of the Florida Keys. Allow yourself about 2 hours and 45 minutes to explore this historic place."
"A hidden gem, full of unique history of Flagler’s Overseas Railroad, the Labor Day hurricane of 1935, and a glimpse into the unique geography of this region. I live in Key West and have learned much about the Overseas Railroad through museums there. The film here was more in-depth and gave a broader perspective of the workers, as well as the importance of this project during the time of the creation of the Panama Canal, the building of the Titanic, and the construction of the NY City subways. I loved the film with interviews of hurricane survivors. So glad their stories are preserved! The final film with a glimpse into the nearby state parks was a treat, too. I was bothered by the closed captioning being of such inferior quality, while the films themselves were superior. I had difficulty understanding two of the people interviewed and relied on the captioning. If I were not familiar with place names in the keys - which I had to decipher from the misspellings and wrong words - I would have been lost as to what these two gentlemen were saying. The artifacts and aquariums downstairs were well done and beautiful. Friendly woman at the entry, a wide variety of books for sale, and a relaxing place to spend time. Very clean! I look forward to returning to support this excellent museum."
"The staff is super friendly! Free parking in front of the location. I missed the turn off because it is located on the property of a hotel. There are multiple interactive elements and videos as well as artifacts. Upstairs there is a play area for children and a mini theater with comfortable seating. The documentaries shown are high quality and super interesting about the region. I learned so much in just 30 minutes! I would certainly go back again as I was only able to stay about an hour this time. I would plan for at least 2 hours: 45 minutes on the ground floor and the rest in the theater depending on what is playing when. The schedule is at the entrance."
"One of the coolest places around, learn about the history of the Florida Keys. They have machines where you can read all about the history of our islands. They have events once a month that you can go to if you are a member. Such a great experience every time we go. Don’t forget to go upstairs and see the theatre and learn about the square grouper days!"
"This was an incredible museum with such a rich history of the Keys to impart. Apart from certain sections, I was completely unaware of how much history is in the Keys. From the railroad, whose remnants still line the highway, to the Native Americans who resided in this region before, the museum pays homage to everything."
