Reviews of Azalea Recreation Center
"Fantastic fused glass & stained glass art classes. Julia, the instructor, has about 30 years of experience with glass art as an artist and certified teacher. Julia is a very knowledgeable, patient and helpful teacher."
"I just stopped by the Azalea Recreation Center and met with a man named Tony. He came out to greet me. What a fabulous employee he is! Smart, kind, and a former Marine. We are truly lucky to have him working at our local park and for the city of St. Petersburg. When I explained to him the issue about older people not being able to see the open days and times for this facility, he immediately saw the problem and said he was going to fix it today. I love that kind of Marine can-do attitude. It’s so refreshing. Well done, Tony! As background, I've seen three parks that don't have any hours or days of opening prominently posted. It could be more. But I've only visited three. In fact, they weren't listed anywhere. Imagine running a business where you don't make it easily seeable from the road the days and hours that you are open for business. Visible and legible to your number one customer base… Older people. Were I in charge of Parks and Recreation, that would be the number one thing on my audit list of things to check on. There's a reason why everyone else does it, Government offices and businesses. Those hours that were listed we're only there because I complained two days earlier. But here's the rub. I've been in this building a couple of times. It seems to be predominantly a senior center. Old people can't read small things. And they have bad eyes generally. Print out the hours and days it's open in Super bold face. And put it right on the main door. Front and center. No special signs with suction cups needed. Printing on paper works just fine. And with tape total cost is under five cents. What is the old adage business? Know your customers. Yes, people can go to your website and dig down multiple levels to find out the times. Your people were right when they told me that initially. Subject: Top 10 Reasons for Difficulty in Seeing Small, Unusual Font Signs Behind Reflective Glass, Especially for Older Individuals at Public Park Entrances 1. Age-Related Vision Changes: As people age, their eyesight often declines, making it harder to focus on small details like tiny print. 2. Font Style and Size: Unusual, non-bold fonts that are small in size can be inherently difficult to read, especially if they are buried at the bottom of a page. 3. Glare from Reflective Glass: The reflection on the glass can cause a glare, making the text behind it more challenging to see and discern. 4. Crowded Information: If the sign is filled with multiple sheets or excessive information, crucial details may become obscured. 5. Lack of Proper Lighting: Inadequate or inconsistent lighting can cause shadows or uneven illumination, further complicating readability. 6. Contrast Issues: If there’s a lack of contrast between the text and its background, the words can blend in, making it hard for anyone, particularly older individuals, to read. 7. Positioning of the Text: Text placed at the bottom of a sheet or in an unexpected location can easily be overlooked, especially if readers aren’t expecting to find information there. 8. Presence of Multiple Sheets: Having many sheets stuck at the entrance may cause confusion and make it harder to locate the specific information needed. 9. Cognitive Factors: Some older individuals may experience cognitive changes that affect their ability to process complex or unfamiliar visual information quickly. 10. Other Health Factors: Conditions like cataracts, glaucoma, or macular degeneration, more common in older adults, can further impede the ability to see and interpret signs with such challenging characteristics. This list encompasses factors that can hinder the readability of such signs, especially for older individuals who may already be dealing with age-related vision challenges."
"My wife and daughter had a great date at the spa day. Keep up to date with their upcoming events"
"I love this park. BUT there are to many loose dogs not on leash. Like a big white standard poodle ran at my dog. A lady walks her Australian Shepherd loose, another two Chihuahua , 2 different German shepherds and other small dogs all off leash. Not good for just going for a walk."
