Reviews of Residence Inn by Marriott Miami Beach Surfside
"I had a similar experience with my reservation during Christmas . I happened to call the hotel to book another room and I was told the hotel was closed for a day due to a recent storm. I called corporate and they were unaware of the situation and told me someone would get back to me. I had a reservation for two weeks and wanted to confirm that the hotel would be open in 20 days. Nobody returned my phone call, I was told that the manager was on vacation till the 18th, and corporate promised me seven times someone will get back to me before December 20. I never heard from anyone and I received an email three days before I was due to check in. They were unable to help me secure another hotel, I was even willing to go to one of their upscale properties, but nobody was able to help me. I have been a Bonvoy member for numerous years, and I use their hotels for business and pleasure. The service was so horrible and I’m here to hear back from somebody. I don’t understand how they can handle the busiest week of the year by just sending out a random email three days before a reservation."
"Would not recommend. From start to finish this place is not worth the money. The room was dirty when we arrived, waited 40 minutes for them to find the beach chairs you're forced to pay $30 daily for, parking was $38 only to sit in the garage for over a half hour waiting for them to fix the gate. Our room was missing pictures on the wall, shower was dirty when we arrived, the kitchen couldn't keep up with breakfast so both mornings the only thing available was granola and oatmeal. The location is great but man this place is not what it seems online. Never again."
"Location is excellent. Room had a musty smell Only one front desk clerk Resort fee comes with a $30 credit you can use at the little shop at the reception, but with such complicated rules. Only drinks in left fridge on top 3 rows, no alcohol except for cans of beer which are ok. No once cream. Just complicated. Annoying"
"The hotel has a decent location but there were huge problems. First, the bathroom and shower are terrible - the shower is a half open concept and, as a result, half the water from the shower ends up on the floor of the bathroom resulting in a large mess. Even better, there is a faulty sliding door to the bathroom that won't close properly. It is not surprising then that the room is extremely humid. Friday was when the real problems started. Just before evening we were advised in passing that everyone would have to leave the hotel the following morning due to some 'mechanical' failure. We then confirmed with the front desk officialy. Later we found out that this was due to a humidity problem (shocking). They didn't provide us with any written notice (they tried to claim they did but only offered a list of hotels in the area). They did try to call but we were unable to answer. NO compensation was offered other than Friday night being free. This was the same night we were told to leave and during which the temperature in the room did not drop below 78 f. No help was offered to find a new hotel. They were adamant about not giving anything else despite the huge issues and the fact that we lost an entire day of our four day vacation. We also noticed on arrival that there were already dehumidifiers throughout hotel in front of rooms but they were still checking people into the hotel. Even worse, we overheard from several employees that this was an existing issue that wasn't taken care of last time. That's also where we learned that this Marriot is not owned by Marriott but by an independent franchisee; it doesn't follow all the rules of the other ones as strictly, as a Marriott owned franchisee. No stove top or kettle to boil water. No hot water downstairs except for the morning, which is ridiculous. Despite some ok things like breakfast and activities/amenities, don't go near this hotel since you night get stuck like us in an unpleasant mess, with all perks and activities cancelled. Incredibly poor and greedy management."
"I would not stay here again for several reasons: the sofa bed was very uncomfortable, the sofa was also uncomfortable to sit on, they were understaffed with housekeeping & front desk, the loud construction made the lobby area miserable, and there were many fees added on to the nightly rate ($50 per day pet fee, $38 per day parking fee, $30 per day resort fee). The shower was only partially enclosed so water sprayed out to the floor and on the bathroom wall. There was already water damage on the wall near the shower. And when I requested extra towels on 2 separate days, it took several hours to get the towels. On the bright side, the location was excellent with a 2 minute walk to a beautiful beach, 2 minute walk to the community center which included water slides & lap swimming, and 5 minute walk to Publix market."
