"I am currently staying at La Playa. I’ve never left a bad review in my life, but I am disappointed beyond words. I booked a weekend stay for my wife and my 17 year anniversary. First off, this isn’t a “resort.” It’s a hotel on the beach. The spa is across the street, the golf course is off premises, and their “gym” is a 40 minute walk: it’s actually LA Fitness. They didn’t offer us an Uber or any form of transport, so we walked the 40 minute walk to the ridiculously packed LA Fitness. They only have two elevators in this 15 story “resort,” one of which has been broken for a year! A broken elevator at a cheap Holliday Inn would be fixed immediately. How the heck does a $1,000 a night “resort” allow this? So, of course, the wait at the elevator ranged from 5-15 minutes. The elevator stops on basically every floor on the way up and on the way back down. My room was nice, and the view was stunning, but the hot tub I paid extra to upgrade to looks like it was built in 1954. It barely works, and isn’t inviting AT ALL. We didn’t use it. I shared my experience with the young lady at the front desk, who simply nodded her head in an understanding manner. In anticipation of the inevitable response to this review, I’ll just say they need to stop blaming the hurricane. There’s no excuse for a broken elevator for a year, and if you have no gym, you need to offer some form of transport. If your amenities aren’t yet up to standard, charge less!!! If I had paid $400 a night for this place, I’d be annoyed. Paying $1,200 a night has made me downright angry. Edit: The manager, Ken Minke did reach out to me and was extremely apologetic. He really tried to make things right, and accepted full responsibility for some of the issues they had. I think that says a lot about him, and the business. His passion and pride in their resort was evident. I may give them another shot."
"We have been eating at the restaurant for many years, and have never seen such horrible service. Of course the ocean view us beautiful, but was dissatisfied with the slow service. After we where seated we waited and waited at least 10 minutes to be acknowledged by the waiter. Also we needed other drinks but he never came back to check. Finally, had to ask other people just get the check. Other guests had to get up and chase down their bill also. We expected more frim a so called luxury hotel.and restaraunt. Love the view though."
"Our family spent my mom's 80th birthday at LaPlaya and it didn't disappoint! The entire staff was top notch. Diane, the concierge, was delightful, informative and made sure that our stay was as pleasurable and memorable as possible. Thank you."
"My husband and I would like to start by thanking Carlos the resort manager and Richard from Laz VIP for the exceptional welcome. We went for a 40th wedding anniversary and it was exactly what we needed. It is a beautiful quaint resort that has everything that you need to have a great time whether it's just being lazy out by the beach, going for a power-walk or relaxing in your own balcony, which is exceptional. The food at Baleen was great. Every staff member greeted us kindly and professionally. The rooms are very spacious well decorated and extra comfortable. LaPlaya can be a much or as little as you need it to be that's why it's so perfect. A rare find. We will be back. Thank you."
"I was very disappointed. I stayed at this place for my birthday weekend in july 2023. I was charged a price that I felt was justified, based on the amenities that refleted the pictures on the website... ($385 per night). I went there thinking I was going to a beach resort and found just a regular hotel. The pictures were misleading. They did not reflect the current, actual status of the place. None of the amenities shown on their website were available due to construction, with the exception of one small pool. They did have a message stating that they were currently under construction and that SOME... amenities were not available. However, they downplayed the gravity of the situation. Everything was under construction. The pictures should reflect the current status, not what it was before renovation began. I understand that this was all due to weather destruction, but at the same time, they should not have the consumer pay for their loss, under false pretenses. I feel that there should have been an adjustment on the price in order to compensate the fact that It was basically just a regular hotel, not a resort. The staff was really nice, everyone, there was very helpful. But I was cheated on the price since the amenities advertised were not available. I don't know what it looks like now and it's really disappointing that I didn't get the chance to enjoy what attracted me to this place, and truly enjoy my birthday."
