Reviews of TownePlace Suites by Marriott Orlando East/UCF Area
"No, no, and no again. Had to switch rooms for roaches crawling up wall in daytime, could only imagine when we were sleeping. They were nice enough to give a credit but still very gross. Moved to new room and it “looked” cleaner but, got bug bites in my ankles and kids itching. Unfortunately we had to leave early and stay at our friends air bnb that came available. This is the first Marriott I’ve stayed at that was bad. Staff was accommodating and nice but it’s not their fault."
"I recently stayed here for 13 nights. First, I will talk about the property overall. This property feels older and this shows in the rooms, which are a bit dated. The room I was in had an area by the closet with a very unpleasant smell. I asked that this be looked at and they indicated they cleaned the carpets, but the smell remained and I didn't press the issue further. For a longer stay, it was good to have a laundry area and a full kitchen, which helped save on meals as I could cook my own. Over the last week I was there, there was a lot of noise. Some of it came from being near their equipment room, which had a generator turn on between 5:45am and 6:45am several mornings. Other sources of noise were being right outside the parking lot so car alarms would go off sometimes as late as 3am. The fire alarm also went off one night at 9:30pm requiring an evacuation until the fire department arrived and cleared the building. One thing that was really disappointing with the stay occurred in my second to last day. I am in a wheelchair and have a service dog who provides physical assistance to me. I was at the breakfast area looking at the offerings when the assistant manager (Jessica) approached me and told me that my service dog is not allowed in the breakfast here and that I could separate from my dog (She would hold my dog's leash outside of the breakfast area while I got food) or that she could get a plate for me. I informed her that per the ADA law that he is allowed to be in all public spaces (except for things like burn units in hospitals). There was some back and forth on it with Jessica saying that she thought dogs weren't allowed to be near food areas with me telling her respectfully that she was mistaken. I have to say that the fact that this was done in front of 4 other people who were eating their breakfast in the area was highly embarrassing. At this point and after the fire alarm going off at 9:30pm the night before and being woken up at 3am by the car alarm and then at 6am by the generator, I said I had lost my appetite and didn't bother with the breakfast for the last 2 days I was there. Jessica did approach me an hour later and indicated she had checked the law and was mistaken and she apologized. I appreciated the apology, but I'm quite surprised that a manager wouldn't be aware of the rules and wouldn't at least have the tact to have the conversation outside of an area occupied by others to avoid embarrassment. As far as room wheelchair accessibility, there are some challenges. The beds are high (which was disclosed to me ahead of time and I appreciate that) and the soap/shampoo etc are out of reach of most people in wheelchairs. The initial room I was given didn't have enough room to navigate a wheelchair through the kitchen area as it was up against a wall, but Jessica moved me to room where the kitchen was mostly accessible (except for the kitchen sink which required an adaptive device to reach the faucet), which I appreciated."
"We requested a handicapped room connecting to a regular room. The ‘accessible’ room has a tub, not a walk-in shower, a super tall bed, lots of furniture (my 91 year old father in law in a walker had trouble getting around) and we couldn’t get the wheelchair in there for him to use. The kitchen was useless for him, super tight and he couldn’t even make it to the fridge. I don’t know how they consider this ADA compliant. It’s a joke they call it accessible . We were on the 3rd floor and the hallway reeked of pot and was smoky. Both of our rooms were filled with the smoke and smell of pot through the vents to the point it gave us headaches. Signs everywhere that it’s non smoking hotel, that they impose a $250 fine, etc. But they don’t enforce it. The young woman at the front desk didn’t do anything when we told her there were people smoking in the room next door. All she did was shrug her shoulders when I asked if they enforce the non smoking rule. She offered to move us but we needed a connecting to a handicapped room which they didn’t have. At least they should offer an air filter. The room was noisy, lots of street noise all night long. The carpet in the room is gross. The hotel is modest, non pretentious and tired; embarrassing to be a Marriott. Won’t be coming back."
"Room smells really musty..like a gym locker room. I do like the free breakfast and complimentary parking. Bed was comfortable."
"We are UCF fam from Tampa area. We visit this area often, especially during football season. Overall, I believe we've logged about 2 dozen nights in the past 12 months. The customer service is perfect. The breakfast is a great bonus, along with the juices they offer. The Place is always clean and the rooms are great. We've stayed at other Bonvoy's initially, but this is "home" for us now and will not stay anywhere else. From upper management all the down, perfect."
