"To summarize the below - Give Brownell Personal PT a chance. Steve cares, is engaged, and frankly seems fascinated by the mechanics of the body- so you can be assured he's invested in your recovery. A few years back, I wrecked on my bike and herniated 6 discs (2 at the base of the neck, most severely, two in my mid back, the remaining two at the base of my spine) and separated my right shoulder. The year of the accident, I pedaled over 4000 miles. I considered myself fit, and would say I had a decent understanding of my body and how to use it. After complications from shoulder surgery, I've had chronic spasms at all levels of my spine; worst of all from my neck going into my throat/head/face. I've had palsy on the right side of my face, issues with hearing on my right side, vision in my right eye (loss of depth perception, persistent vertigo when looking to my right or down, object tracking, etc.) persistent numbness down the back of both of my arms into my hands, as well as my legs, worse-so on the right side. I went to school for classical/flamenco guitar. I type for a living (IT/coder). My hands were nimble; and for the last few years, they've felt more akin to flippers. I've had neurosurgeons tell me that I need to get at least 3 levels of my neck fused to *possibly* resolve some of the aforementioned; but also, given the nature of the procedure, I'd likely get additional herniations above and below the affected area, and in the future would need additional fusions. I've since been to 6 rounds of physical therapy, at 6 different locations. Each stint ranging from 1 to 3 months. I would see minor improvements in balance and strength, but usually at the cost of vision or control of my facial muscles. I've seen 2 chiropractors, one for 3x a week, for two months. My vision got far worse, as well as my balance. I've been two 3 massage therapists, two for 2x a week for two months at least each. I got some relief, but never enough to where I could exercise properly to regain strength/balance. I've been to an acupuncturist, 2x a week (cupping 1x a week) for 4 months. I saw some improvement, but eventually plateaued. My home has been filled with inversion tables, a vibration plate, kettle bells, ceiling mounted aerial yoga straps, gymnast rings, yoga mats, foam rollers, a weighted vest, a chirp wheel, shoulder braces, neck braces, and a thing called an "Iron Neck". I had made just enough progress in my recovery to not get too fat, and regained enough mobility to walk my dog, go to the grocery store, and mostly white knuckle through work. About two or so months ago I started seeing Steve on the recommendation on a friend, and not only was his methodology different than any of the therapies I had tried before, he was *genuinely interested in both my injury and recovery*. This guy would nerd out over the feedback, and was fully engaged the entire session, every session. First my vision started to recover, then my balance and quality of sleep. It's been a couple months at least now, but this is the best I've felt in 3 years, and I'm hopeful again that I'll make a full recovery without needing more surgery. I have a lot for which to thank Steve."
"Steve was incredibly helpful in improving my range of motion, and giving me some therapeutic stretches and exercises to help relieve both a specific injury, and some chronic ongoing pain from previous injuries. His holistic approach to whole body wellness ended up helping resolve pain and tension I wasn't even aware of."
"I am an Athletic Trainer and our jobs are to refer our athletes to the right practitoner at the right time. I also own a fitness business, and run an entrepreneur group where i meet and collaborate with many healthcare professionals. I can honestly say the Steven is one of the most sincere and empathetic physical therapist I have ever had the privilege of working with. His attention to detail, calm demeanor and Sherlock holmes style of problem solving combined with a wealth of experience and knowledge make for one of the best therapists in our area. He has often times solved physical problems for myself and people I refer in 1 or 2 sessions. He has a very unique perspective on soft tissue, including scar tissue and has developed techniques that should be studied and added to textbooks for future physical therapists to learn from. He understands the complexities of human physiology and function and spends a great amount of time teaching you what is happening with your injuries and more importantly how to improve and heal. I call him my muscle counselor as I can go in and just have him help me sort through all my past traumas from contact sports, while giving me direct plans of action to complement his treatments. If you are jaded by your experience with insurance based physical therapy protocols- do yourself a favor and book a 1 hour consultation with Steven and you will thank me later. Thanks for being amazing Steven! My wife and at least 10 of my clients all agree! You need to charge more and stop fixing people so quickly;) I had toe pain for 10 years- you fixed in 1 session, elbow pain for 8 years- 3 treatments, he even does some amazing abdominal and pelvic work, chronic migraine elimination and so many other miracles. SINCERELY! Christoper Tolisano ATC. Owner-Best Day Fitness."
"I had been suffering for months with severe hip pain. Steve diagnosed it as being related to thigh muscles not releasing. In one visit I was virtually pain free. I did a couple more just to make sure we had it released completely. Not only did he fix my pain quickly but he was super professional in his work. He first got consent to touch my inner thigh and made sure I knew that if anything about his touch made me uncomfortable in any way I had complete control to say stop. Steve understands the inter workings of the muscles, tendons, and ligaments well and can help his clients achieve pain free range of motion improvements. I highly recommend him."
"I saw Steve after suffering from lower back pain for over six months. I had never had a chronic pain issue and so kept thinking that it would just go away. When the pain didn’t subside, and actually got worse, a friend referred me to Steve. It’s one of the best referrals ever. Steve was able to diagnose the problem on our first meeting and have me perform exercises that gave me immediate relief. He also provided with me exercises and a program I could perform at home. Within weeks my back was better and I am now pain free. I would highly recommended Steve and have in fact referred my husband to Steve to treat his neck and shoulder issues."
