Reviews of Mi Tierra Tacos Y Platillos
"If you've lived for any time at all in Mexico, you will recognize the feeling when you walk in here. You will then always come here. It may take a little while to establish yourself as a regular. But if you really miss the food you had in Tepotzotlán, Cuautitlán Izcalli, Cuautitlán de Romero Rubio and Texcoco, you will smile, use your grievous Spanglish as best you can and tip well. This is as authentic as you can get without a passport."
"If you’re looking for a typical Tex-Mex restaurant with chips and salsa, this place is not for you. Mi Tierra serves delicious authentic Mexican food, most if not all of it homemade. Their barbacoa is excellent and served with hot freshly made corn tortillas. Unless they run out the chivo (lamb) tacos are a real treat. My husband loves the seafood caldo. They don’t skimp on the seafood, either. The people are friendly, the food is delicious, the portions are generous, and the prices are reasonable. Don’t let the somewhat run down appearance fool you. Mi Tierra is everything an authentic Mexican restaurant should be. Real. Mexican. Delicious."
"The food was delicious! Is a small place that can use a lot of work on its appearance, but the food is delicious! Everything tasted homemade, tortillas were freshly made and delicious! Their aguas frescas were so good!!!"
"As I entered, I do not recall anyone saying anything. I sat down at a table near the window. A couple was dining at another table. There were booths along the wall. The waitress was walking around doing whatever. A man appeared and brought a menu to my table. Luckily, it had photos of the plates of food served. I usually order a burrito in Mexican Restuarants. The photo of the Torta was very appealing. I ordered the "beef" Torta. It was very delicious and looked like beef or steak. Strange thing was they spoke ONLY SPANISH. My Spanish is very limited to "salutations of greetings". I get lost real quick-like trying to listen to a foreign language I do not know. Just because my grandmother was Mexican does not mean I know how to speak fluent Spanish. Pointing to the "Torta" I was able to order food and then the drink was a struggle. Later I figured out that I ordered the "Melon" soda. There was no chips and dip, no napkins, no utensils, and no glasses. I was served the melon drink in a "pitcher" with a straw!! That was a first. The Torta was served without a knife and fork. I looked at the couple and they were eating with their hands. He was sipping his straw in the pitcher! She had a fork. I guess it saved on the expense of buying cups by serving a whole pitcher of drink rather than a glass. There were styrofoam cups near the drink display. As the waitress cruised by about 10 or more feet away, I said, "Miss, Senorita" She kept walking. The couple tried to get her attention to no avail. I got up and went to the counter and asked for a knife and fork. The top bread was cut but the bottom was not cut. It seems the "family" was having lunch and the older woman got up and gave me a knife and fork that was in a paper sleeve-type wrapper. Later the bill was put on my table with no total. I had to stop at a counter about 15 feet from the door to pay. This was the most strange dining experience ever. Apparently their goal is to cater to only Mexicans. Why would they not greet people speaking the local language...English. This is not Mexico. It is Foley, Alabama."
"this a small hidden gem, sometimes they have to close early because food runs out, it’s that good. They have delicious agua frescas my favorite is the melon one. I ordered bistec a la diabla (steak in red hot sauce) and oooo it was spicy but it was delicious as was the rice and beans served along side it."
