Reviews of Kathleen Joseph & Associates
"Upon entering couples therapy, we were immediately put at ease by Kathleen's warm and compassionate demeanor. She skillfully created a space where we felt comfortable sharing our deepest fears, frustrations, and vulnerabilities. Her ability to actively listen and provide insightful guidance made us feel validated and understood, allowing us to open up in ways we had never before. Throughout the therapy process, Kathleen adeptly uncovered some underlying issues that were contributing to the disconnect in our relationship. Her depth of knowledge and experience enabled her to identify patterns, triggers, and behaviors hindering our growth. What impressed us most about Kathleen was that she had the ability to balance neutrality and support. She acted as a mediator, facilitating productive discussions while ensuring each partner felt heard and respected. She provided unbiased guidance and helped us navigate through disagreements and find common ground, ultimately strengthening our ability to resolve conflicts in a healthier manner. In conclusion, We highly recommend couples therapy to couples seeking to heal, grow, and forge a deeper connection. The investment is well worth it."
"A few years ago, I was spending lots of time listening to my fears, failures, and shortfalls. Fears of failing out of school. Failures in my relationships. Lack of ability, energy, and even desire to fix things. I sought help because my friends intervened into my life and recommended that I get help. Meeting with Kathleen helped me work through the unresolved mental loops that were holding me back from advancing in my personal development, relationships, and academics. My problems didn’t go away. Instead I was taught a broader understanding of how to decrease their influence in my life. I was skeptical of seeing a counselor, but I told myself that “I might as well get all it has to offer.” I was surprised to see how easy it was to talk about my circumstances and how wisely Kathleen navigated my conflict to expose the underlying dilemma in a way that used familiar logic and considered my real emotions. This was often coupled with resources, pointing to the psychological challenges I was experiencing, and next steps based on credible research and documentation. Of the many victories I achieved in nearly four years counseling with Kathleen (Gradating college, starting a career, enjoying closer relationships with my family, and even getting married) the greatest among them is the mental process to work through my thoughts and emotions. Previously, my inability to do this caused repeating mental exhaustion from unresolved cycles in my head. I am sure life will only become more challenging, but I feel grounded enough to work through any discomfort to achieve my goals. In the case it’s too much for me to handle, I know Kathleen will be willing to help."
"When I decided to seek services with Kathleen Joseph, I was at a point in my life where I’d done all I could to make sense of certain events in my life. My world was crashing down on me...I was close to having a nervous breakdown trying to deal with the pressures of changing occupations after many years, adapting to the new environment and people. I was struggling with feelings of loneliness and feelings of anxiety were at an all-time high and I was struggling to make sense of my relationships where they had made sense in the past. I chose therapy with Kathleen because she came highly recommended by a specialist and when she told me Kathleen was of minority, I felt even more comfortable with going through with the process. Scheduling the appointment was easy and I got a response the same day. By the next day I’d been scheduled for an appointment. In this area, it is rare to find a therapist who understands the culture that I come from and that made me more likely to seek therapy and to open up about my issues and experiences. The process is painless and nothing like what society makes it seem...it is a calming enlightening experience. I like the method by which she conducts therapy as well...I believe it’s narrative therapy...As I was walking out the door from my first, my thoughts were, “wow.. okay. That was invigorating. I will do this again!” Every session I have had with Kathleen has been beneficial and I’ve left with a better awareness, and/or new insight of whatever we discussed in the session. For example, understanding what my triggers are and how to recognize and deal with them in everyday life is one of the many things I’ve gained. Seeing Kathleen has made a major difference in my life, I look forward to my next sessions wondering what golden nuggets of knowledge I will learn next about myself and/or situation through our conversations. I'm always taking notes and she gives me the time I need to do so in session. Before I started therapy with her the fog in my life was thick...I was having a hard time making sense of certain events in my life. Therapy with Kathleen has helped me to recognize and handle situations in my life that were difficult before. I can’t say enough how truly blessed I am to be a client and how thankful I am for her services. She is truly God send!"
"When I began therapy with Kathleen, I thought all my problems were unique to me. Every single problem seemed insurmountable and I thought I was the only person dealing with the issues I was facing. My anxiety was mounting seemingly by the day and I knew I’d reached a point where I would greatly benefit from professional help. As a Black woman, it was vital that I had a therapist of the same cultural background. There are issues that I knew she’d innately understand as a result of her own experiences, and that’d be one less topic I would have to dive into with her. Kathleen helped me to normalize all of my issues so that I could actually navigate addressing them with her guidance. She provided different resources in different formats (books, handouts, videos, etc.) that catered to my learning style. I never left my sessions with her feeling hopeless, although when I started therapy, “hopeless” was exactly what I felt! She always sent me off feeling empowered and with the confidence I needed to go back into my reality with an action plan and the will to enforce it. I was no longer hampered by a feeling of helplessness, or that I had to just let life happen to me. I was in charge of my immediate environment and not only did I have the responsibility to command the reality I needed to thrive and be healthy, but also the power within to do so. Oftentimes I felt as though my rambling during sessions would confuse her, but she always put the jumbled pieces together and reframed them in a way that made more sense to me! I’m now more empowered to tackle issues in my life head-on instead of staying in my head, allowing them to fester and roll around unchecked. I no longer allow myself to fall into a despair thinking that I can’t find a solution on my own. I can tap into what I learned in therapy to not only address, but to resolve inner and outer issues in my life and relationships. Thank you, Kathleen. I wouldn’t trade my time with you for anything!"
"Kathleen was recommended to me through a good friend a couple of years ago. I had been desperately searching for a therapist that genuinely listened, was up to date with the newest studies in cognitive and behavioral therapy, and had the ability to do couples therapy as well. I had tried several around the Gainesville area and can finally, succuessfully, say Katheleen has helped me in both my own growth and consciousness as well as my relationship. I was ready to give up, and she was able to maneuver through my own forced realities to help me understand others exist outside of what I tell myself. She is kind, passionate and will even go the extra mile to help ensure you have the tools needed to understand yourself better."
