Reviews of Ernesto Blanco, MD
"We had a positive experience with Dr.Blanco. He's very knowledgeable and he has answered all our questions and concerns in referenceto to our son. Despite all the negative feedback here, I was hesitant to visit his office but I truly recommend this Doctor, as well as the Stuff was super nice too. Thank you!"
"I was a patient of Dr. Blanco’s ten years ago, and it is disheartening to see that the problems I faced with him at the time seem to be continuing a decade later. I was initially referred to him because I had a family history of diabetes and was showing signs of pre-diabetes. I, being 13 at the time, wasn’t entirely aware of what I was there to see him for. I knew his specialty was hormone related, but that was it. In fact, with the conversations I had with my GP and subsequently Dr. Blanco, I was under the impression the Metformin he prescribed was for my high testosterone. In all of my recollections of appointments with the man, he spoke mostly of two things, my high testosterone, and my need to lose weight. I was prescribed Metformin for a month or so before its purpose was made clear to me, not by him or any member of his staff, but by my diabetic grandmother who lived out of state. The next time I saw him, I did not confront him about my not understanding and his poor attempts at making sure I understood. I was more concerned with the fact that I was suffering from daily diarrhea because of the metformin. When I, again a 13 year old girl, tried to explain to him that I was missing classes, and nearly having accidents, he brushed off my concern and told me to just keep taking it. Saying it would eventually stop. I did, but once I actually had an accident at a friend’s birthday party I stopped. 13 year olds are brutal. I told him this and he did not give me other options. Which is strange considering when my current endocrinologist heard about my previous experience, she suggested I take an extended release version. I have not had a Metformin related accident since. He refused, adamantly refused, to even consider the possibility of me having PolyCystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) even though my mother and one one of my aunts has it. It would explain the high testosterone, insulin resistance, and the extremely heavy periods I was suffering from at the time (10hr overnight pad being filled in 1hr) but he refused to entertain the idea. At my first gynecological appointment (17) I mentioned all of this and she immediately ordered an ultrasound. Guess what? PCOS To top ALL of this off. I suffered from precocious puberty, a condition where the body starts producing androgen hormones early, usually before age 10. Common signs that I presented with were body hair, body odor, early menses, and early height growth (I was 4’ 8” at age 4, I am 5’6” at 23) A common test for this is to perform an x-ray of the wrist, he ordered one. But with his history of not explaining things, me leaving most appointments upset, and him not explaining to my mother WHY he was requesting a hand x-ray when my hand wasn’t broken, that was it. I just stopped seeing him. There were no alternatives in network, so I spent 3 years unmanaged with monthly bouts of anemia until my mother finally got me in to see an adult endocrinologist and GP. I’ve joking told people that if I ever see this man out and about, it’s on sight, but in all honesty, his inability to listen, empathize, or explain, has likely left me with lifelong issues both physically and psychologically. So I implore you, please find another Endo for your child, not just for their immediate health but also their future health as well"
"8/28/23 Update- we gave Dr. Blanco 1 more chance. He prescribed my daughter 500 mg Metformin 2x daily after reading off the results of her blood test. When I got home, I reviewed the document that showed that he had read results NOT from her test 2 weeks before her appointment but from an outdated test that was 10 months old! Her blood sugar crashed for the entire month she was on it & we followed directions exactly. - Blanco prescribing meds based on old results. Also as of this writing, their online patient portal is only accessible if a patient is 18 yrs old, so caregivers can't access their child's charts online, only by going in person to the office. We have scheduled an appt with a different *highly recommended* Endocrinologist through Joe Dimaggio that has offices in various locations & a more open schedule. ---- 8/1/23 Dr. Blanco is polite however the office repeatedly cancels pre-scheduled appointments due to him not blocking off his vacation schedule in advance. The next available appointments are 6-8 weeks out, thereby delaying critical care for my child that requires blood work no further than 2 weeks prior to each appt. As a result, the process to get care for my child has dragged out for 14 months, as of this review. Her appt that they re-scheduled is in 1 day & his office just informed me that before he will see her again, she needs a new referral from her Pediatrician who needs up to 3 business days to provide. DR. BLANCO is fired as we will be giving our child the care she needs by employing the service of a deserving & ethical pediatric endocrinologist."
"I’m posting this as a public service. We’ve lived in multiple cities since our son was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes over 11 years ago and had the pleasure to work with several top notch offices. This is not one of them. Do yourself a favor, do your research, read the reviews and avoid this office. It is the most disorganized, rude, and disingenuous office staff we have ever encountered. To make matters worse, the incompetence spills over to our son’s medical records when you try and have prescriptions written or school documents completed. If you still decide to give them a try, plan ahead and clear your day as an appointment doesn’t really mean anything here. Pack a snack as you will be there for a while. I hope they figure things out as it’s really disappointing for the families that are new to this terrible autoimmune disease and really depend on this office for medical services."
"I am at a loss for words to describe the lack of care, professionalism, basic respect and responsiveness towards patients that Dr Blanco and his entire staff have demonstrated. If you need treatment for your child, if you care for your child’s health, I highly recommend you seek elsewhere. Our daughter has gone months without a much needed treatment because of the incompetence of this doctor and his staff. Absolutely unacceptable. There are other pediatric endocrinologists out there who actually give a care; look for those."
