Reviews of Michael Baker, MD
"My wife went to take the kids to get them checked out for a follow up bug bite case of cellulitis and an internal pain that my other child has been complaining of plus a cough that had gotten better but was still present after it having been about a month. Like the previous visit, he is obsessed with pushing a COVID test because they were exposed 2 WEEKS ago, have shown zero symptoms, and have tested negative on the rapid testing. We have followed all school and CDC guidelines. He was forceful with getting them tested after my wife declined and did not even look at what we booked the appointment for. My wife left the room as he kept insisting and he followed her outside into the office insulting her, calling her a neglectful mother in front of everyone. Zero professionalism and unacceptable."
"We took our kids here for a couple of years based on recommendations, despite reservations we had over that period of time. The front staff usually acted like the patients were an inconvenience and there was a decent bit of turnover with the clinical team (not sure if they are actual RNs, MAs, CNAs, or LPNs). I could overlook all of that as long as the clinical care we get is high quality. Yet, we founds ourselves often walking out with more questions than answers. Dr. Baker was always respectful and kind, though his competency is questionable. He acts as though he is just waiting to retire and does not practice evidenced-based medicine. For instance, he would automatically prescribe antibiotics at the onset of any viral ailment. This is far more detrimental to a child than not. The last straw was when we were prescribed Tamiflu nearly a week into my kids having the flu. The relevant studies on Tamiflu clearly indicate it’s not at all effective at reducing symptoms unless taken very early on, and the risks outweigh the negligible benefits. So, it was clear to us that he either prescribes things to make it seem as though he is “doing something” or just isn’t up-to-date on the medications he is pushing. Sadly most patients aren’t medically knowledgeable enough to catch these sorts of issues. Having lost faith, we ultimately decided to at visit with another pediatrician for a second opinion on an unrelated medical issue. We kindly requested the most recent records to be sent to another office, but made it clear we wanted to keep Dr. Baker as our PCP in the interim. A short time later, we received a call stating we were being dismissed by Dr. Baker’s office solely for seeking a second opinion. Healthcare facilities should ALWAYS encourage patients to seek out second or even third opinions if it means acquiring truly informed consent. Any practice that doesn’t is simply not a practice I trust treating my children."
"We are new to the area and have a preemie baby that was born at 31 weeks. Dr. Baker and the PA, Stephanie are both great!!!! We really feel that the staff takes time and listens to our concerns and helps understand the plan of care for our child. We would highly recommend to anyone!!"
"Super friendly staff and Dr Baker is awesome! My son has been with him since day one, and he is 9 now! Dr. Baker has always been kind, calming, gentle and very intelligent! I would recommend him and his staff to anyone looking for a wonderful Pediatrician! Thank you for all you do!"
"So awful we didn't even make it to the appointment time. I made an appointment with Dr. Baker based on two recommendations. At first I called to make my son an appointment as a cash patient. I was told because we were in the process of receiving insurance information I couldn't pay cash, we had to use our insurance. I waited until our insurance was processed and called back and made an appointment. Gave the young lady the info for my son's plan. We arrive, from Clermont, at the appointment today for my sensory disorder child to be told they couldn't verify our insurance and I had been marked as a cash patient (ummmmm, you told me 3 weeks ago I absolutely couldn't do that) and no one called me either the day before or the morning of to save me the drive. I was also informed Dr. Baker no longer sees sensory patients - even though I mentioned how we were referred when I made the appointment. The "billing" person, Kim, and the office manager (I think her name was Abby) could not have cared less and were extremely rude. Not even an acknowledgment that they should have called me to work out the insurance issue. The real kicker - I called my son's insurance myself when we got home and was told everything was fine for him to be seen. I'm a medical practice consultant and everything about this interaction was wrong."
