Dr. Suneel L. Mahajan, MD 5742 Booth Road, Jacksonville, FL 32207

"Almost 20 years ago, in November of 2000, I was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL). My family doctor referred me to Dr Mahajan. He explained he had “bad news and good news”. The bad news was that I had leukemia (APL); the good news was if I could keep it away for at least 2 years, it would PROBABLY never come back! The treatment however, consisted of ATRA(a vitamin A derivative), chemo, and backed up with blood transfusions. The problem came in because I do not accept blood transfusions. It goes against my conscientious. That was not a problem for Dr Mahajan. He respected my decision and did research. After telling myself, and my family that it was very likely I could die after the second treatment, and we understood the risks, he proceeded to come up with just right amount of chemotherapy. Not too much, and not too little. I remember, after 2 weeks in the hospital, I asked him if I could go home. The normal treatment would be for me to be in the hospital for 6 weeks, until remission from the ATRA),but he kindly agreed as long as I agreed I would do absolutely nothing, until the treatment was finished. I am happy to say, it is June 28, 2020 and I am still alive and very healthy! I remember a nurse at St Luke’s Hospital, asking me how I was able to get Dr Mahajan? .. she said there they called him “the miracle worker”! I just thank him for his dedication to his patients and not just taking the “standard treatment “ for all his patients, and respecting MY wishes, even if they weren’t his beliefs. My husband at the time wanted me to get a second opinion (at the prodding of a friend) from a Mayo Clinic doctor. That doctor said he would do “standard treatment”and because I didn’t accept blood, I could back it up “with prayers”! He wasn’t even agreeable to do research, to see if there was another option. I thank Jehovah God for bringing Dr Mahajan into my life. I was able to be at my daughters wedding, and to welcome 3 grandchildren into this world! I would one day like to thank Dr Mahajan in person! He is truly the most dedicated doctor that has ever come into my life."
