"My experience with USF health and Dr. Williams was very disappointing. I am a licensed medical coding and billing specialist, and a licensed medical administrative assistant. I was treated in hospital a non-pregnancy related women’s health emergency, for which I needed to follow up in 1-2 days. USF women’s made my follow up appointment - and rescheduled it four times for various reasons. In the meantime, I’ve made sure my referral was ready, and I PERSONALLY faxed over medical records from the incident. I also confirmed with USF that these records were received. Finally, over a month out from my hospital treatment, I go to check in for my appointment (I brought copies of my medical records from emergent treatment) and they inform me that my “authorization from Tricare has been declined so they’re waiting on another auth.” If you know anything about insurance, you know this is absolute bologna. They planned to have me sign a form saying I would pay for the appointment up front (which is not legal as I have federal insurance) and when I declined, they told me I would not be seen. This was around 1600 on a Wednesday. I asked to speak with a billing coordinator to make sure the authorization had actually been requested - they asked me to wait and I could meet with her. 1645 rolls around and they call me up to the desk to inform me that the billing coordinator leaves at 1630. I asked 30 minutes before she leaves to speak with her. They made me wait until AFTER she left and acted like it was just too late. Absolutely unacceptable customer service. I ask to speak with an office manager at this point as I’m very upset. They tell me to wait again, so I ask when she leaves. They said 1700. Well almost immediately an MA calls me back and said “Dr. Williams can’t see you without an authorization, but he is going to review your medical records and call you back.” Fine, that works. I’ll wait. But she then asks me if she can have the copies I brought with me because she doesn’t have mine on file. She asked me to write my phone number on the back. Are you serious? I called both my primary care team, and my insurance and found that authorization had never even been requested by Dr. Williams’ staff, much less “declined” as I’d been told before. I got reference numbers for these calls. The next day after calling every hour and being OBVIOUSLY avoided by the office manager, I finally get ahold of her and explain the situation above. I was calm and professional, I just wanted the issue addressed so it can be avoided. It’s unacceptable to turn patients away for your own malfeasance. She told me to “see a different doctor.” What a joke. It’s unfortunate that Dr. Williams’ staff is lying to patients to cover their tracks, and then telling him to see different physicians because of the lack of personal responsibility from his clerical team. Losing patients, no doubt. Also, never got a call back from the doctor. Shame."
