Do your homework and see his credentials. In addition to impressive qualifications, Mr. Batey and his sons are people of solid character. I've seen them work with students who had a hard time paying, myself included. They are not in it for money, they have passion for martial arts and teaching. My first day there, i was astonished to see the real power of martial arts from his son, Robert. Seriously, its no joke!"

"I'm an old student from long ago (about 25 years ago) and to this day still train using what i learned from sensei batey. Prior to training under him i had prior training in numerous other styles and chose to adapt those to shuri-te. "sensei batey is by far a great teacher for martial arts and is also a very caring individual. my two sons practice here and i do as well. there have been times when we could not pay and his exact words were "pay me when you can. this is a martial art school not a bank." i speak very highly of sensei batey and his sons. they are very knowledgeable in everything martial arts and also take very good care of their students. the man on her that wrote a bad review simply must just be someone that either has a vendetta against sensei or is just butt hurt that my two young boys can do what he couldnt. i have been going here for a good few years now and i personally myself have never heard a bad review from anyone that has walked into senseis office. if you want to have your children become skilled and disciplined in something amazing then bring them here. sensei batey and his boys are always welcoming new people and will treat everyone just as family while there. Rising sun blackbelt academy is not just "another karate school" and they are deffinatly not scam artists. they are good hearted true martial artists. and i personally have learned alot more than just martial arts from the man. if you dont beleive me by the review. go to the dojo and take a couple classes cause i assure you that you wont be dissappointed."

"My boys and I started taking karate at Rising Sun a year ago and couldn’t be happier. As a single mom with 2 sons adopted from foster care, one can say there are quite a few behavioral issues. Mr. Batey and his sons have been phenomenal working with my boys and instilling good behaviors, respect and discipline. Mr. Batey is extremely knowledgeable about the history and techniques of Okinawan shuri-te. Don’t let the size of the dojo fool you, not everyone that interviews is accepted, which allows a lot of 1 on 1 training, you wouldn’t receive at other places. I love that I am also able to train without having to pay a sitter. You won’t receive better training ANYWHERE else."

"I have been training here for over a year now. Mr. Batey and his sons are all super knowledgeable in martial arts. Ive been treated like family here. I look forward to every class. I feel my time is not wasted. Im a traditional martial artisit and thats what i found at Rising Sun. I started coming here after i had knee surgery and Mr Batey helped me heal better than any therapy session couldve done. This is the longest standing dojo in Pasco County for a reason. Not too mention that you dont walk into a wall of 6 year old black belts. Im sorry i just dont believe that somone that young can retain the knowledge that is needed to be a black belt. This is definitely where i belong and will continue to train here. And for those of you that feel that Karate isn't a good art...
