Reviews of UF Health Shands | Transplant Center
"This may not be the appropriate place, but I cannot find anywhere else where I can review my experience with the UF Health transplant team, especially Dr. Abass (I believe that was his name). My experience with the lung transplant team was horrendous. My father, who was 75 when he passed, suffered from IPF (Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis). He was an INCREDIBLY healthy man for his age in all aspects and the surgical team would agree, he just suffered this one strange condition. My father was asked to do many things (which he fully complied with) while the UF surgical team dragged their feet for months upon months, literally. His condition was worsening as his lungs began to slowly lose their ability to function. As his condition worsened, he was admitted into the hospital so that the surgical team could review his current state. One thing my father was always against was the Covid-19 vaccine, which the surgical team made a requirement for a transplant. That seems kind of moronic considering the large number of reported adverse effects from the vaccine including mycarditis, blood clots, and lung conditions. The UF surgical team forced him to take the highly controversial Covid vaccine and within hours, he became disoriented and his condition worsened. He was moved to the ICU where his condition continued to decline. He began to develop ICU delirium as his oxygen needs rose higher than ever. The head surgeon, I believe his name was Dr Abass, would come into the room and was very disrespectful to my mother, but people of his background don't have a lot of respect for women in general. To this very day, I will always believe that had UF Health not forced him to take the Covid vaccine, he would have become strong enough for the transplant (if the surgical team didn't continue to drag their feet). They forced that horrible chemical concoction on my father and it immediately (within hours) sent him spiraling out of control and losing his sense of self. At the same time, I know of a recent patient who drank themselves to death in their forties to fifties, completely killing their liver. Because this person is well known to UF Health, they were moved to the top of the National liver transplant list and they got a new liver the same day. I guess working for UF has it's benefits. Surely there were more deserving candidates, but again, it pays to be on the inside. Point of all this is, I will never trust my health or the health of a loved one to the transplant team at UF. After a recent Shands ER visit with a loved one where we moslty sat in a hallway due to a lack of rooms, I can't say anything positive about that experience either. Go to the Mayo Clinic. Go anywhere else and if at all possible avoid the Lung Transant Team. I will never take the Covid vaccine for any procedure and would rather die than go to UF Health Shands for anything. After my experiences, I will choose any hospital other than this one and I encourage you to do the same."
"I am fighting for my husband's life. He has ESLD. We have been trying to get him on the list for a year now. I contacted Shands twice through their website contact us form requesting info and appointment. I NEVER received a response. Thanks for nothing. Poor patient care. So very disappointed."
"My name is Vicki Pentecost I had stage 5 renal failure. I was Blessed with a selfless Angel who I didn't know want to donate a kidney to me! Shands was my choice. I have had Awesome Drs and medical helpers. When I had transplant(Dec. 5,2018) the Drs and nurses were so helpful and caring! Only had to stay 3 days and my donor 11/2 days. I highly recommend Shands! I'm alive today because of live donor (Art Fales) and Shands medical team!"
"Very attentive and caring. The patient to nurse ratio seems to be excellent. We got great attention. Everyone was very polite and caring. Also very, very knowedgable."
"The best in the business. We put our lives in their hands and they work miracles."
