"My wife went in a few weeks ago for her first visit to a cardiologist. Her followup visit with Dr. Gelinas -- to review some test results -- was yesterday. On a calcium test she scored a "2". That's on a scale that tops out at 400. On the basis of that alone he put her on a strong statin. Statins are nasty things, very popular but with a lot of side effects. He did not explain why it was necessary... ESPECIALLY since he did not review ANY of her bloodwork -- tests that indicated very healthy scores in HDL, LDL and A1C. It is our opinion that the statin rx was not well considered and not only unnecessary but potentially dangerous. This will be our last visit to Dr. Gelinas."
