About the Business
Area Stage is an award-winning theatre organization located at 5701 Sunset Drive in South Miami, Florida. Founded in 1989 by John and Maria Rodaz, this nonprofit organization has been a pioneer in the Miami Beach arts community. Area Stage offers world-class professional productions, a vibrant conservatory program, and opportunities for underserved populations and theatre artists of all abilities.
The organization presents a mix of contemporary and classic plays, world premieres, and immersive theatrical experiences, setting high standards for South Florida's theatres. Area Stage moved to the Riviera Theatre in Coral Gables in 2008, where it established a professional-level conservatory program and the Inclusion Theatre Project for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities.
In 2020, Area Stage relocated to The Shops at Sunset Place, where it now has state-of-the-art dance and voice studios and a black box theatre. The organization's mission is to provide extraordinary theatrical experiences, nurture the artistic talents of the next generation, and make the collective experience of theatre accessible to all. They offer classes, Broadway-quality productions, and summer programs for students of all ages and backgrounds.
