"I have never seen a more messed up school. I have put several kids through school and my last two were at Lyman. This place is full of drugs and violence. Mike Rice and his staff do not care one bit about this place. They act far worse than the children do. I have seen this first hand. I fear for my kids safety at this school and I have never felt that way about a school before. This place had a school rating of 8 just three years ago. Mr. Rice and his staff have managed to get that down to a 3 as of this week. This administration treats these kids like dirt and allows the bullies and drug dealers to run the school. The victims get punished because they are easy targets. This is a sad situation and Im sure that someone will step in at some point and put a stop to it. Lets just hope its before something serious happens. If you are concerned about violence and drugs in your school, you might want to look into Lyman a little further. At first I thought the bad reviews about this school were just a bunch of sour grapes until my daughters life was threatened and I found out just what goes on in there. If anyone would like to hear more of our story, I am happy to fill you in. We would love to help save a future child from this mess!"
"Have never had any issues with my children at this school. Like with any school, you have the good and the bad. Children who have disciplinary issues at home are usually the ones that cause issues in school. Principle is very involved in all aspects of the school. Lyman has very good academic and many sports programs that have received state and national recognition. Many students have received scholarships through their programs. Their Facebook page is very active on recognizing the children’s achievements. As far as the “jail-like” atmosphere... a couple years ago some Seminole County schools had begun security measure protocols to keep children safe if there is ever a campus situation. Lyman is one of the schools that has a secure lock down campus with resource officers on hand in case a situation occurs. Altamonte Elementary also implemented same program around the same time."
"Horrible staff and the place is treated like a prison! Found this place in a time of need during hurricane Irma and I regret every bit of it. I will definitely ride the next one out in my own home. This place claimed to have power but instead using it for lights or AC, they used it for TVs in the break room for staff. People were getting sick and taken out in ambulances all night. The morning after, we weren't allowed to get fresh air outside and made us continue breathing in the sick, disgusting air of the hallway filled with 500 people. The school is absolutely sickening. I would not put your kids here or even just seek shelter here."
"Lyman High School is a place where dreams are made to die. This school has screwed up my whole life by putting me under the bus for something that I didn't do and has screwed me over for my whole semester by suspending me for the last 3 weeks of school so I flunk out. Their modo,"everyone matters," is complete and under garbage. DO not come here if you are thinking about it, go somewhere else like Brantley or Lake Mary where they understand what decency is."
"The dean of discipline doesn't do a very good job at listening to students, instead he listens to one student and decides that they are right about another student. The way he handles situations is like a first grader. The drama teacher is highly obnoxious, has favorites, puts students down, and engages in conversation with her students acting like she's still in high school. Would not recommend this school unless you are interested in engineering. Lyman doesn't solve issues they just listen to one person's side and goes with that and gives out detentions."
