"I want to start off by saying that most of the teachers and staff that work here are amazing, it's a shame they have to teach some of the worst people the world has to offer. I don't expect a high school campus to be the cleanest place on earth, and for the most part the campus isn't the ugliest thing. The one thing that ruined my experience here were the students, and honestly it's just the area the school is zoned in. If you're looking to move here for this school you better start looking somewhere else, as the kids that attend here are some of the biggest A holes you'll ever have to deal with. Obviously not everyone here is terrible, but taking one stroll through the campus on any day you'll see what The Silver Hawks have to offer. Idiots is the best word I can use to describe them, they lack any kind of self awarenesses to the way they're acting. Dealing with people like that multiple times throughout the day easily makes you wish you were at a different school."
"My daughter goes to Lake Howell and loves it. It is an "A" rated academic school with Honors and AP classes available. School security is taken extremely serious with armed 2 SRO's (Seminole County Deputy), cosmetically appealing high perimeter fencing and gates at entrances, security cameras throughout school, teachers with handfree ability to lockdown school in event of emergency, and continuous safety drills. The sports programs have great facilities with an artificial turf stadium and brand new outdoor swimming facility built in recent years from an anonymous donation. My daughter participates in girls lacrosse and weightlifting and loves the coaches and teams. As for the previous comment about the band, my daughter is also a band member. The Lake Howell "Silver Regiment" Marching Band has competed in the FMBC State Finals in 4A in Tampa for the past 3 years. Placing in top 3 in that division 2 years in a row. These kids are extremely dedicated and have an outstanding band director. They continuously receive superior ratings in all areas. A recent Snap raise campaign was launched to raise donations to upgrade band equipment. Over $20,000 was raised through strictly family and friend donations with nearly 100% participation in those donations. Only proving how well it is supported by the students family's. I would recommend Lake Howell to any family living in this area."
"I had a great experience at this school! The teachers are very helpful in terms of teaching/learning. I do wish that they would let students/faculty establish more clubs/sports, but I feel like everyone receives a fair chance at this school. While the school has plenty of AP courses to offer, they could add a few to give the overachieving student a chance to learn more. I was a part of many clubs/sports at this school and i'm currently in Grad School. I give Lake Howell High 5 stars!"
"Moved here a month ago and we're still having issues with a class my son is in. He hasn't been fitted for a uniform that is needed, music sheet hasn't been distributed, he hasn't been practicing with the band just left on the sidelines to watch. He's a freshman and I hate to see him dislike something that he loves so much. He doesn't want to participate anymore. He started playing with the HS in our town when he was in the 7th grade! Very disappointed with the band director's way of handling this situation. Very unorganized. He has fitted well in the rest of his classes especially J.R.O.T.C.!"
"I agree with the review below me (starting with "I love my school!"). In my opinion, Lake Howell is a fantastic school. Yes it is old, but it is a building, it will age just like anything else. To the person who said their middle school was nicer, I assume they are referring to Tuskawilla Middle. It is only nicer because it was rebuilt, when I attended Lake Howell and Middle school, Tuskawilla was a single story building with tons of portables around it; the entire school was composed of portable school buildings. In addition, I find that most of the students these days have no ambition to succeed. Many of them still write like first graders (and not because of the teachers, they simply don't care. Lake howell is and was better than most of the high schools around. It may not have the nicest facilities but the atmosphere was good. As a student, I changed from an incredibly shy person freshmen year to being a freshmen mentor and creating the school website and designing the flyers for the school. With many others joining clubs and associations that have won many merits. I, myself, have went to the national competition for BPA. Rival schools had 40+ members versus Lake howell's 8 members. All 8 of us went to nationals while only a fraction of the rival's 40 went. As the previous person before me stated, YOU NEED INITIATIVE. The problem is with today's society is that many of us don't try anymore. I have seen Juniors in high school still confusing their use of "to, too or two." That is simply embarrassing in my opinion. That should have been learned in 1st grade. I am not an "old" person (I graduated two years ago), but looking around, I see many of the current students just simply not trying. So ignore the negative reviews unless you have good reason. Lake Howell is the best and I never regretted my time being there. Support was always there and the teachers did care."
