Reviews of Herrmanns' Royal Lipizzan Stallions
"Terribly disappointed yesterday after returning twelve years after first seeing the Herrmann's family rendition of what they called a show. When first observed all those years ago, the spectacular involved at minimum eight female riders that put the Lipizzans through the full repertoire of their capable dressage movements. The levade is a position wherein the horse raises up both front legs, standing at a 30° angle entirely on its hind legs in a controlled form that requires a great deal of hindquarter strength. A less difficult but related movement is the pesade, where the horse rises up to a 45° angle. The courbette is a movement where the horse balances on its hind legs and then essentially "hops", jumping with the front legs off the ground and hind legs together. The capriole is a jump in place where the stallion leaps into the air, tucking his forelegs under himself, and kicks out with his hind legs at the top of the jump. None of these took place between the only remaining family member and her 15 year old daughter. The show was slightly more interesting then a petting zoo. If you go, consider the admission cost as a donation to keep their farm running and not much more than that."
"This family really loves these endangered horses and seem to work tirelessly to care for them, train them, and provide opportunities for the public to see these beautiful stallions (and mares) perform their routines. Go see them. Support the Herrmann family who for four generations have shared their love of the Lipizzans with many thousands of visitors."
"Fabulous demonstration of the stallions strength and agility and wisdom. Take exceptionally good care of the horses and are thankful to the people for supporting their hard work of helping the horses. They teach about the fascinating history of the horses and show how the horses were used in battle. They encourage and say kind words to each other as they perform. They also speak kind words to the horses and tell the horses they are a good boy. They reward the horses with sugar cubes when the stallion does a good job. Their hard work and gratitude is evident in how they share the royal lipizzan Stallions with others. Thank you, Thank you for sharing yourself and the horses."
"We thought we were going to see a dress rehearsal - with all the flowing costumes that accompanies a horse show- but we were pretty disappointed. The lady who owned the horse farm was pretty much the show- demonstrating her different Lippizan horses and their talents. She spoke quite a bit about the history of the Lippizans which was quite interesting but not enough of a horse show. Since the hirses no longer perform shows, I didn’t consider these shows to be dress rehearsals. I felt there was a lot more that could have been added."
"A lovely way to spend an afternoon. The horses are beautiful and the family clearly cares about them. For $5, which helps offset the cost of their care, you can watch them rehearse and bleacher seats are provided (just get there early if you want seats in the shade). Remember that this doesn't mean you're getting to see one of their shows, but it's truly charming to see the interaction and what goes on behind the scenes."
