"I have numerous issues with this school. I have remained silent-until now. The biggest problem I have is with the Spanish teacher Cordell. My daughter is Hispanic. We have been to Mexico Numerous times. We have a residence there. My daughter speaks enough spanish to live and communicate there. We speak spanish in the home. I encouraged her to take this class to get better at reading, writing and conjegating verbs. My daughter is constantly being told she is wrong in her studies. She can not seem to get above a C average. 1st I think it should be stated when considering taking this class; that spanish spoke in Spain is being taught. With that being said-what good is it to any student trying to become fluent and speak the language here. Her father-born and raised in Veracruz Mx.- has helped her in her studies and she still gets her assignments wrong. How can this be acceptable? Can this teacher even really communicate outside her class room? I feel she begrudges my daughter because she can speak spanish-just not her book spanish from Spain. Problem after problem with this teacher. Today I had an appointment and went to pick-up mija early from school. I called ahead so she could be ready in office when i got there. 15 minutes later I arrived at the school and my daughter still hadn't got to the office. 2 Times the office had to call my child down from her class!?! 40 minutes total from my phone call until she arrived in that office. I aked mija what took so long and she told me - loud enough for the whole office to hear- that Cordell wouldn't let her leave. I then seen the office attendent shrug her shoulders as we turned to leave. I was extremly livid by that time and chose to bite my tongue. I feel that this experience was by far unacceptable."
"Not a really good school to go to because the administration do not care about you unless you are popular and/ or their favorite. I had a problem when i was a freshman. The guy was a Junior, he stalked me and much worse. I told the administration about it and they thought i was crazy, They didn't believe me either, they just let me get more uncomfortable. The discipline is absolutely ridiculous here, like if someone gets into a fight, they blame the person who didn't start it and gave them discipline instead of the person who started it. I'm never going back there and homeschool is my main thing now."
"The campus is brand new and very clean. I enjoyed my 4 years at this high school. The career resource center is fantastic, Mrs.Holleran is great! I was also in the NJROTC program which was phenomenal. The program taught me so much. I would recommend this high school. Remember everyone has different experiences, but hey thats high school."
"This school is absolutely amazing. Compared to the other schools in the nearby towns, Lemon Bay has done nothing but turn my life around for the better. In the eighth grade, I was predetermined to attend Port Charlotte High School and when time came to scheduling, they put me in ALL regular classes although my GPA was a 3.8. However, we moved to Englewood before my freshmen year and enrolled at Lemon Bay where my WONDERFUL guidance counselor, Mrs. Dailey, suggested that I begin taking honor classes and told me I could take Algebra 1 & Geometry honors my freshmen year. I am Now currently going into my senior year and do not have to take any math or science classes thanks to the head start I received! I am incredibly upset of the multiple 1-star reviews that were fabricated and given to the school by a single person about the school's bigoted and homophobic staff. This is entirely untrue as I can proudly say that I have been openly gay at the school and have not been treated any different from any other student from staff and peers."
"I'm looking at this school for my child. It's a shame that obviously one situation, likely with a few personalities has tainted this review panel. I want to know about the school not about someone getting their feelings hurt about prom. That person has chosen an alternative lifestyle and in certain circles you will feel what you may have felt about prom for a lifetime, but no reason to bash the school. With the equality in this world today and this being a public school I know there is no way you were prevented from attending prom because you are gay or with whoever you choose to attend prom. What you don't see is you are acting like whoever hurt your feelings - bashing the school for the sake of making a point. Grow up."
