Reviews of Dunedin High School
"ESE services are pretty crappy. I am a child with special needs and I do not get a whole lot of service. They are dismissive when parents need help and are very rude."
"My child started school here under Mr.Hepburn's administration and the school was great. You would routinely see him greeting students and parents in car line, walking the halls, interacting with students, faculty and parents on school property. After his transfer to another school ( PCSB's doing), Mr. Johnson took over the leadership of this A rated school. It was remarkable how quickly it fell to a D rating. Fights among students: regular occurrence; apathy and blatant annoyance at having to interact or say...perform their job by front office, attendance staff, etc. commonplace; police being involved in tasering of a student during school day altercation: True. The list goes on. I asked my child if Mr. Johnson is ever seen walking the halls, the answer was NO. I have not seen him on any occasion that I have been at the school interacting or making his presence known. Please know that there are some wonderful educators with a genuine love of teaching- Mrs. Cappel, Mrs. Sampson, Ms. Foley, Ms. French, Mr. Benson, Coach Wilkins, both Mr. Sellers and many others who sacrifice to make a difference in these students educational experience but are pushed to their limits. Please, if you are considering this school , demand of PCSB that more be done to restore this neighborhood school to the level achieved under Mr. Hepburn's leadership. I am thankful that my child is finished with this disappointing and deteriorated example of public education. Shame on those in positions to act and fail to or governors who cut budgets to the learning institutions of our future society."
"I attended DHS from 2007 to 2011, and well maybe back in my day the school was alot different than it is today. In my day kids seemed to enjoy going to school, and I believe that it was because of Mr. Paul F Summa. During my freshmen year I got picked on by some jerks in my English class and my teacher did nothing about it. One day I finally lost my temper and I said something to an innocent bystander. Thought for sure I was going to jail, but Mr. Summa decided not to suspend me cause he understood me and why I got mad, and the best part was that I realized I was to smart for that class and pulled me out. He was more than a principal, he was my friend, and I'm truly sorry that the kids of today can't enjoy it as much as I did, but I will never forget my years there cause after graduation my life has seriously gone down the drain, so you can say I'm stupid for enjoying high school, but just remember different time different people"
"I am a parent of a teenager at Dunedin High School and must say that the experience so far with this school is atrocious! No one keeps you up to date on students' academic performance prior to progress reports and report cards. No one else seems to care about the students! The only thing that was positive for that school was the former principal, Mr. Hepburn, who for some opaque reason upped and left! Other than that this school seems to be deteriorating rapidly downhill as "a block of ice in the blazing sun"! I am really disappointed in this school and would love for the Florida Department of Education to ensure that this school gets back on track! If I could give it no stars, I would!"
"I went to Dunedin High School for 9th and 10th grade. The campus was moderately clean and most of my teachers were amazing. Despite that, I hated this school and here's why: There was one teacher [Mr. Cramer] whom, whenever I asked for help, would just tell me I should have learned [whatever my question was] back in 8th grade. On top of this, he used to tease and berate me--not only about my clothing and choice of style, but also for asking questions pertaining to his class. He once went so far as to say [in front of the entire class] "You are dumber than my dog, you know that girl?", after I asked a question. The whole class erupted into laughter. Not only did I fail his class but I also received straight F's. I figured if even teachers had given up on me, there was no reason to care or try. After all, they're supposed to be the people that believe in you and help you succeed, right? When my parent's heard about a teacher calling me "dumber than his dog" they came down to the school and talked to the guidance professional available. Nothing was done about the public berating from their "professional staff". Instead, I was forced to change schools after my 10th grade year. Despite my horrible experience with the aforementioned, there are miracle workers in that school; teachers like Ms. Cappel certainly saved not only my grades and knowledge but my life! Unfortunately, because of how horrible my experience with the first teacher was and the way it was NOT handled or cared for in the slightest by their team of "guidance counselors", I do not recommend this school to anyone."
