Reviews of ro
"The restaurant was absolutely stunning, with delicious food and impeccable service! The servers went above and beyond, providing us with detailed descriptions of each dish and even asking for our preferences. Personally, I couldn't resist the mouthwatering combination of popcorn shrimp and rice - it was my absolute favorite! The ice cream at the end was exactly what we needed. Delicious"
"Nice vibe, great food, and good drinks. It is a small venue so make a reservation or sit at the bar which is open seating. We did not have reservations and the main bar was full so we sat the sushi bar. We did not try the sushi as we do not care for it. The popcorn shrimp with sweet and spicy aioli was really good. I tried the Kintsugi which is their spin on the Old Fashioned. It was well-balanced and just good. My husband had the Saiko which he really liked it has rum and sake. We both tried the Yakimeshi which is fried rice, I had the shrimp while my husband tried the pork, he wanted chicken but it was not a choice just the pork, shrimp, beef, and Japanese wagyu. It was phenomenal (chef's kiss) the flavor was perfect. It was a good experience we definitely recommend it."
"Good for occasions, hoping to see an updated menu as client feedback comes back through the year. Came with a reservation with friends on Friday to our first experience with ro, definitely would recommend picking up a reservation for evening times, it was quite busy when we arrived around 6 PM, so I’m glad we had made plans in advance. The ambiance was very modern and moody, with dimmed lighting through the space. Loved the curved booths at the side of the restaurant. Our server Jon was great and attentive. My friend is participating in Dry January and he gave great mocktail options for her to choose from and she chose a strawberry mojito which was delicious! All of the drinks we got were good, they’re in the mid-to-high range of pricing per cocktail. The food itself had some hits and misses. We liked the wagyu gyoza and it was a great starter to get as it was both rich from the meat inside but also the (assuming ponzu) sauce at the outside gave it a nice tanginess. We got 3 rolls and definitely had our group consensus of the good, the mid, and the meh. We enjoyed the ro roll, which was raw and fresh. Honestly, I’m glad this was a hit because anything a restaurant is willing to put their name on should be good. We enjoyed it so much that we ended up ordering another plate of it. Our “mid”dle of the road roll was the prawn roll. The prawn meat was substantial in the roll, which I feel like it compensated for its price point. I’d utilize the dabs of various sauces that are on the plate (or the soy sauce at the center of the table) because it was on the drier-end for protein since it has a battered coat. Then, for us came with the lobster roll which was the priciest of the trio we ordered. I appreciate the asparagus in there to add some crunch, otherwise, I didn’t really care for the protein as it came off a bit dry for me and really fell short in flavor. The sauce at the side of the plate helped it immensely. Personally, it is a roll that can be better improved upon in the future or just a skip for something else. This is why I had food rated a bit lower, but it’s all stuff that can be improved upon into the next year ro is at Hyde Park Village. Parking available in the garages in Hyde Park Village, valet available across the street. Be wary of high traffic times, like weekends."
"Let me start by saying the food at Ro is absolutely amazing! We have gone twice in the past few months and both times had outstanding quality food. Best sushi in town. That said, sadly service has been subpar. During our last visit, we struggled to find our waitress for long stretches of time. She was not that knowledgeable of the menu. We received warm beer and asked for the next one to get iced down before serving which did not happen. Warm beer again. Our water glasses remained empty and when the server actually filled them, he spilled water all over the table and never apologized nor came back to wipe up. I had to get up and ask for napkins to wipe the spill. Nice decor and calm atmosphere. Need to work on service."
"New sushi spot in Hyde park?? Yeah, we HAD to go! The drinks were on point and we tried so many different items. I didn’t take a picture of everything we ate but did manage to get some pics. The vibes give modern Japanese steakhouse with the traditional Hyde park style of the bar being half outside. We had both eel, uni, a tuna and a vegetable roll. The wagyu gyoza was our favorite and we’re not big on beef. I regret not getting the duck it did look amazing so next time we plan on getting it. Most dishes are shared and just a heads up, it can get pricey. ro definitely gives you an experience. The service was impeccable, however I feel like it was a little too much waste. We had our silverware and chopsticks replaced after each use. Our server was great, but coming to check on us every two minutes has to be exhausting. I’m sure they are trying to make a great first impression and with us they did just that. I would recommend adding a little more light around the bathrooms it is a little hard to see, but overall we liked the ambience and layout of the restaurant. Ice cream was house made and delicious, but could’ve been better presented. Kudos to the chef and much appreciation to the staff, we had a lovely time."
