Reviews of The Waldorf School of Tampa Bay
"We considered many options for our son’s education, and we knew that this was the most critical decision when it comes to his early, formative years. As soon as we made contact with the Waldorf School of Tampa Bay, we knew that we had found something unique. My son and I were introduced to the school through the Merrily We Meet parent/child classes, taught by one of the most delightful educators you’ll ever meet - Ms. Connie. She provides a beautiful introduction to Waldorf education through modeling, singing, simple handwork, puppetry, article/book discussions, and so much more! If you are interested in learning more about Waldorf education, this is such a lovely way to start. I will forever treasure the early days when I was able to attend class with my son! I shared everything I learned with my husband, who did some more research and went to tour the school with me. We saw the campus (it’s magical), talked to the administration and faculty, asked tons of questions about curriculum and safety and social emotional well-being, and left the tour feeling so relieved that we had found a school where we felt our son could have the space and guidance to thrive; not just academically, but also physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Fast forward to the end of our son’s first year in the early childhood program and we cannot be happier. He is excited to go to school every morning. He has lots of free play inside and outside, circle time, a healthy and hearty organic snack prepared by his teachers, and plenty of opportunities to socialize in different settings - from outside in the sandbox, to inside playing with toys, to around the table sharing a meal. He loves his teachers, and we do too! They have been very helpful in sharing ways that we can support our son’s first year in school. We treasure the fact that they honor our son’s current stage of childhood and respect him as a unique individual. In addition to our son’s day to day happiness with his teachers and classmates, we have learned what it means to participate in a school that nurtures not only it’s children, but entire families! We have had many opportunities to become involved in our school community through the parent council and through monthly parent education sessions presented by various teachers. Topics are always inspiring and range from nourishing a child’s imagination, to how art feeds science, to creating loving boundaries, and many more. We have felt so welcomed and respected by the entire community throughout our first year as a Waldorf family. And we’ve learned a lot, too! In summary, my child is safe, well cared for, and respected at his school. His teachers know what is developmentally appropriate for his age and for him as a person, and they guide him accordingly. The teachers, administrators, and parents all support each other and the result is this peaceful, thriving, magical little community beneath the oak trees in Palm Harbor, FL. A place where learners are exposed to rigorous academics alongside the arts, plenty of time to explore and play and move their bodies, instruction in multiple languages, hands-on experiences, and countless opportunities to think critically. And I’m so glad that we get to be a part of it!"
"If you want educators who truly treat each child as an individual and help them to become the best version of themselves, then you have come to the right place. My daughter (3 years old) blossomed at the Waldorf School of Tampa Bay. Day by day, I watched as she became happier, able to articulate her feelings and thoughts consistently and thoroughly, more social, more artistic, and most importantly, thrilled about going to school every day. This school, its administrators, and its faculty embody what every parent dreams of: a safe, nurturing, meticulously attentive environment packed with hands on learning and one which cultivates learning in a way that inspires wonder, an appreciation of the arts, a holistic understanding of and passionate interest in the world around them. My daughter developed an impressive vocabulary through the songs and stories she would hear in class. She learned to be more outgoing, braver, and in control of her environment from her experience in the really magical and aesthetically pleasing environment outside, where she spent a good deal of learning as well. She also learned how to handle the intense feelings children can have from time to time. Her teacher understood her so well that she taught me helpful observations about my own child that I could then take note of and implement to become a better parent. The amount of thought and care that goes into each child's experience and unique way in which each child is treated so that he or she can learn and grow is second to none. Ms. Kate, Ms. Christa, Ms. Fernanda, Ms. Melissa (and many others) - they are such wonderful, extremely intelligent, dedicated professionals, and I felt they comprised the village that everyone speaks of it taking to raise a child (but that so few have found)! So attentive to my questions, so helpful with direction, so genuine. These women treated my daughter with the respect, admiration, energetic effort, and affection that they would treat their own and, for that and for everything I have said above, I am beyond grateful for the opportunity and the privilege to have my daughter attend this school."
"My oldest has been with Suncoast since Jan 2014. She is now a 3rd grader. She completed 2nd grade in this school having transferred from another Waldorf school in Arizona. I feel happy and confident knowing my daughter is in an environment whereby she loves going to school every day. Her eagerness to learn is always bright. The community of the school itself is a great community of many helping hands, bright, happy and loving people. My youngest is also in the school. She attends the early childhood group. Her teachers are wonderful. They are creating a very loving, kind, compassionate and safe environment for her to learn to love to learn. My youngest is learning to try new foods thanks to them! I am happy to be a part of this school. Now, let me get to the nuts and bolts... in Waldorf, primarily from my experience and study, a child will learn a bit slower overall the academics when compared to a "traditional" setting. However, I believe it is also very much up to the parents to make sure the child is being kept busy and supplemented as needed in the studies. I keep a close eye on my children, especially the older one to make sure she is keeping with the expected grade level. I highly suggest any person looking at placing their child in a Waldorf/Steiner setting, that they educate themselves in the full Steiner philosophy so as to get a bigger picture as to what exactly is taking place, why and how. It isn't just about a pace to put your child to learn. It is a group, a study, method, community and wholeness of the child being considered. Personally, I love Waldorf, but you have to create balance, stay educated as a parent and keep on top of what your child is learning. It takes the school community to make it what it is. It takes a strong Administration to keep things running smooth. It isn't perfect but I firmly believe, either one is part of the solution or part of the problems and it takes work to be a parent and keep informed. My children are happy, healthy and loving life. They are learning. They are well rounded. Thank you SWS."
"When my daughter started complaining that she didn't want to go to her Westchase school anymore - we knew she was getting bored. We looked at alternative educations and liked the way that the Waldorf schools taught in ways that gave children a love for learning. My daughter started the mixed age Kindergarten which includes ages 3-6 years old. The teachers are loving and nice and it took my daughter about 2 minutes to adjust to the new setting. Research the school, visit their website and then visit the school for yourself - you will quickly see it is unlike any other school."
"This school has a wonderful enviorment for any child. It is an alternative private education that focuses on teaching through the creative arts, stories, and hands-on curriculum. Waldorf schools are national private non-profit schools. The school does not assign homework because they feel the children should enjoy their quality time at home. Children that attend this school grow up to love school because of the way they are taught here. My daughter jumps out of bed in the morning excited because she can't wait to get there.
