"We visited The Ginger Root for the first time this past week. Our overall impression was, "It's okay." First, I asked our server what béarnaise sauce was. It came on the filet mignon "filet Oscar". We are country folk and are not familiar with French sauces. Our sever quickly replied, "google it." This set the mood for the evening. We didn't bring our phones in with us on date night, so I had to go out to the truck to retrieve my phone. The sauce sounded intriguing to me but not to my wife, so I ordered the $52 filet Oscar and my wife ordered the $17 shrimp Alfredo. The sever quickly walked away, and I had to call her back to the table to ask if there was a choice on how I wanted my steak cooked. When our food arrived, we unwrapped our silverware to discover a previous users food still attached to my fork. The server didn't seem surprised and took my silverware away, never to return with more. I had to borrow my wife's salad fork to eat my meal. The food looked great when it arrived, but when I started eating my meal, the crab meat on top of the steak was cold, and the béarnaise sauce was lukewarm, but they both had a good flavor. The steak was small but very tender. They don't give a portion size on the menu, and I'm guessing it was a six ounce steak. When I reached the mashed potatoes that were under the steak, they were soaked in the blood from my steak, and I did not eat them. It did say on the menu that the steak was served on a bed of mashed potatoes and asparagus. In hindsight, I should have asked for them not to be stacked. My wife's food was really good, I tried hers. I normally don't like Alfredo sauce, but it had a surprisingly good flavor. I would have gladly traded my steak plate for her Alfredo bowl. Getting our drinks refilled was a chore in itself, though the restaurant was not that busy. My wife ordered the bread pudding for dessert, but i wasn't chancing anything else. My wife enjoyed her bread pudding, and it was hot. The restaurant was quiet, charming inside and out, but the attire of the servers seemed more beach bar than upscale restaurant. I was very disappointed with my small steak meal and left the restaurant hungry. The owner was walking around asking if everything was good, and I remained silent so as not to spoil my wife's night. It's nice to have a restaurant of this type in the small town of Samson, but I doubt I will return. *** I think they deserved a 3 star review but who reads 3 star reviews? People read low to high and high to low."
"Well, well, what a hidden gem in Samson. I was given a suggestion for an awesome place to try. And here it is, The Ginger Root in Samson. We totally enjoy our dinner. The Ribeye was cooked to perfection. The Chicken Piccata was tender and full of flavor. Oh, and those biscuits, yum! I could have eaten a dozen. They were small. Lol We will be back. I am very interested in trying more on the menu. If you just take a little drive for something new for a wonderful dinner, here it is."
"My wife and I love to support local, small business as much as we can. We had heard the positive reviews of The Ginger Root in Samson, Alabama and knew it was a place we should try. It did not disappoint! The prime rib was so tender you could cut it with a butter knife. The lobster tails were excellent, and you can't go wrong on your choice of sides. We ended the evening with the Crème brûlée that was light and creamy. It was a perfect ending to a fantastic dinner! So, if you are looking for a place to celebrate one of life's moments like a birthday or anniversary and you are in SE Alabama, check out The Ginger Root!"
