Reviews of Ama Spa
"The quality and pricing here is the best you're going to get in Chatt Town- only place I consider to be comparable to what you'll find in Nashville. They also have a really decent monthly membership program, where if you don't go, you get charged for a credit and they never expire. You can also use the credits to bring a friend. Very professional and comfortable atmosphere; like you feel safe and know they know what they are doing, but also doesn't feel stuffy of clinical or anything like that. Very relaxing."
"After two months of monthly membership, I cancelled due to multiple issues. The two most upsetting issues were having a massage canceled 2 hours before my service & then being lied to about a couples massage. My husband & I showed up for our couples massage ( for my birthday), confirmed it at the front desk, & were taken back to separate rooms. When I told the therapist it was supposed to be a couples massage, he told me that there was already another couple in the only couples room & that they booked before us. There’s no excuse for double-booking the only couples room. The new manager was thrown under the bus by her employees. Meaning, I got all the juicy spa gossip from my therapist & a halfway decent massage. Same went for my husband: his therapist asked him what we did for work & how much I made at my massage therapy job! Not that it made much difference, but the free valet service was only available once out of the the three times I visited. Oh! & the secret service charge is completely unacceptable. It’s in tiny fine print at the bottom of the reservation."
"The massage itself was done well! And the lobby is pretty. Those are really the only two positives, which is why the rating got one star. Here are the negatives: the people weren’t very friendly… at all. Almost acted annoyed that I was there. When I got to the locker room, there were seven dirty glasses / cups on the one small counter top in the entire space. I thought maybe a party had just left and gave them a bit of grace. When I came back after two hours, all the dirty glasses were still there taking up space all over the counter. There was only one clean robe in the locker room when I walked in and a mound of about 15 dirty robes overflowing out of the basket. There were no clean sandals. There were paper towels sprawled on the counter. Very very messy locker room, that was clearly not checked on before I got there or the two hours that I was getting a service done. On top of all of that… My 90 minute massage was $195. I’m OK with that cost. But then when I checked out there was a $43 “service fee” tacked onto my total cost. I asked if that was the tip, given it was about 20% of my service cost. The person checking me out seemed kind of annoyed that I asked and informed me that no, it was not a tip. That service fee is how they pay their massage therapists and a small portion of that also goes to their laundry cost. I said, “so it does go to your therapists?” She said “yes, but it’s not the tip. It’s how we pay them for their job. So you need to leave a tip on top of that.” So my service was $195… then I was charged an additional $43… then I left another $40 tip. So my one massage there ended up costing close to $300…. For a messy locker room and relatively rude employees. The only saving grace is that the massage itself was very relaxing. Aside from that, I would absolutely never go back and I would find a different spot when visiting Chattanooga."
"I paid for a 90 minute massage & they were late taking me back so I only received a 75 minute massage. At the end they stuck an additional $50 service fee on my bill. Nice atmosphere but there are definitely better places out there."
"My husband gifted me a $500 spa certificate. The actual treatments I got done were great (90 min signature massage and the 60 min signature facial)- I had the same person for both and she was kind and helpful. The problem I had is the $86 service fee BEFORE tip. I’ve been to quite a few spas before, including one that had an actual immersive experience with a soaking tub and robes and I had never been charged a fee like that. The massage was $195, the facial $135 and I had 3 extras $60 total - so $390 + tip should have been well within that certificate. I ended up adding $40 extra for tip and I would have tipped more if I hadn’t been charged a ridiculous service fee for “back of the house” It’s a shady business practice in my opinion."
