The Smiling Peanut (Jimmy Carter Commemoration)
About the Business
The Smiling Peanut, also known as the Jimmy Carter Peanut, is a unique tourist attraction located at 120 Buena Vista Road in Plains, Georgia, United States. Standing at thirteen feet tall, this iconic peanut sculpture was originally created by members of the Indiana Democratic Party for a political rally in Evansville before finding its home in Plains.
The peanut now sits in front of a convenience store near the Jimmy Carter National Historical Park Visitor Center, just a short distance from Plains High School. It was once housed at the railroad depot, which served as the headquarters for Jimmy Carter's presidential campaign.
Despite Carter's supposed dislike for the peanut, it has become a beloved symbol of the town's history and connection to the former president. Owned by the Plains Historical Preservation Trust, the peanut is maintained at its current location by Davis E-Z Stop.
Visitors to the area can catch a glimpse of this quirky landmark as they drive by on their way to Maranatha Baptist Church, where Carter attends services every Sunday. Don't miss the chance to see the famous Smiling Peanut in person and learn more about its fascinating history at this must-see tourist attraction.

"The Jimmy Carter Peanut is probably the best landmark in all of Georgia and possibly the entire United States. It should honestly be declared a national monument. Idk how anyone could give this place less than five stars. My pilgrimage to the peanut literally changed my life. Do yourself a favor and visit the Peanut!"
"My best friend and I have wanted to make a pilgrimage to The Nut for years now... And we finally did today. Totally worth the drive down from Atlanta. We brought no sacrifice or offering, but I think T H E N U T was pleased... Also learned a ton about Jimmy Carter from all the National Park exhibits about him in the town! Great place all around."
