Reviews of Johnson's Garden Center & Florist
"Johnson’s is my absolute favorite place to buy plants. They have the best house plants, as well as outdoor plants for your yard. Not only are their plants the healthiest that I’ve found in any store around Macon, but they also have very fair, affordable pricing. They have a very wide, broad selection of many different types of plants. They always have what I’m looking for whenever I come here. I always end up leaving with more than I came for because they have so many cool options lol! I don’t even bother buying plants from anywhere else now (so basically any major big chain store), because they always end up looking bad or dying after a short while, even when I am very careful to take proper care of them. Every plant I’ve gotten from Johnson’s, on the other hand, has been very healthy and lasts for the longest time as long as I take care of them. I also love supporting a local small business. The workers here are also very friendly and helpful. They are very knowledgeable about plants and are more than willing to answer any questions I have, and they are always quick to offer help carrying things out for me. It’s a no brainer for me to buy my plants here—they are healthier and more affordable than other stores, there are more options, and the workers are so much more friendly than anywhere else. I recommend this store to anyone who asks me where to go buy plants. :) Johnson’s has me as a loyal customer for life!"
"Was so excited to finally travel to this nursery after reading reviews. We wanted to support small businesses, as a large percentage of my houseplants come from big box stores and online shops. We saw smiling faces coming out of the establishment. Upon entering, I immediately saw that the selection of plants were pretty good. I'm super excited still. However, the man working the counter, (not sure if it was Mr. Johnson), looked at my daughter and me and NEVER greeted us with even a simple "hello." Visually quite pleasant to others that did not look like us. 1st thought was, "hmmm maybe he didn't see us," although not really... so we walk a little further right where he's standing and he looks at us and STILL not ONE word. My daughter immediately asks me if there's another nursery we could go to. I'm so disappointed, because in that short time, I saw several plants I wanted to add to my collection. I guess in a way it worked out because I would have spent a bit of money here. I can't help but ascertain that our skin color was factor, based on observation of interactions with others. Customers we encountered going into, as well as coming out of the establishment were pleasant, smiled, and said hello to us. That's FREE!! Just another day as a African-American consumer. Shopping online eliminates these occurrences unfortunately. I prefer not to. 1 star because they appeared to have a good selection of plants."
"Great plants at a great price. Awesome people that are super knowledgeable. This is my go-to spot for hydrangeas! - BJ Shepherd"
"I had such a horrible experience at this nursery that I sat in the car and cried when I left. I had bought some shrubs earlier in the year and about half of them didn’t make it. The weather in Macon is crazy, so between no rain and then too much rain, most of my yard had a rough summer. I went to Johnson’s to see how we could remedy the situation and/or to get advice for future projects. I had spent about $500 over the summer…which is a lot of money for me. I had taken pictures of my suffering plants and I went into the nursery seeking help. I was not accusatory or demanding in any way. The owner, Terry (I believe that’s his name), was so rude toward me and I was shocked by the way I was treated. I felt like he was trying to intimidate me…I’m small in stature and a young female and he showed absolutely no respect for me as a customer or even as a person. He used aggressive language toward me like “look lady!” and “you abused your plants and that’s why they died” and refused to offer any advice, refund, or resolution. He kept pointing out everything I had supposedly done wrong, and when I tried to explain that the situation was nothing like that, he wouldn’t listen and kept insisting that I had abused and then neglected my plants and it was almost impossible to kill the kind of shrubs I had bought but I someone managed to do just that. He even tried to tell me about my own yard but he got most of it completely wrong and then accused me of arguing when I tried to explain. In short, all I wanted to do was have a conversation but while I was still speaking he turned his back on me and walked away. I know half of Macon goes to the nursery to buy plants but I will certainly not be back. Not only am I shocked and hurt, but I’m a little afraid to return due to the aggressive way I was treated and I wouldn’t feel comfortable shopping there."
"I'm so grateful to this little shop for being THE ONLY garden center to carry a very specific product (it's irrelevant to the review, but Wilt Stop). They saved me a lot of money by having to specially order the product online. The gentleman who helped me was very knowledgeable and helped me find what I was looking for right away. They have a nice selection! I look forward to going back next week when I'm told they will have a variety of Christmas cacti in stock."
