Reviews of WellStar Medical Group Windy Hill LTAC
"It's January 2024. This place is still covid testing. No other medical facility in Georgia (been to numerous ones in the last couple of years as has family & friends) is doing testing. Makes you wonder. Wish I'd known before accepting a spot here for my loved one. I would have chosen one of the other 3 places we were accepted, none of them require covid testing. Here's hoping the care is more in tune with reality & 2024."
"My husband was just released last night after six weeks in the hospital with a life threatening infection. He was here for two weeks of continuous IVs and a colostomy bag. He needed intense physical and occupational therapy as well as care of the colostomy. He raves about how considerate, helpful and prompt ALL the staff was. Continue to next post..."
"Wow is all I can say about this facility. I completely understand the staffing issues with any organization/business however, you should not steer away cleanliness and patient care. I visited a relative who is currently in this facility and the first thing I noticed was how outdated the facility was while driving to and walking into the building. Once I got to his room I hugged him, looked around and immediately put on gloves and started cleaning, the room was filthy! There were alcohol prep pads and items that are supposed to be sterile on the floor, dirty film on the floors, walls, and the bathroom was horrid. There was a full urinal on the floor and things just tossed anywhere, how is this sanitary especially if people with breathing related issues are housed here. When my relative requested something or assistance, it takes a very long time for someone to help him, the rooms have cameras in it but there was never anyone at the desk so how are the patients being watched? When there was someone at the desk, they were face down in their phone… anything could happen, You are supposed to be alert and reviewing the cameras! The food….. I felt so bad when the dinner came, it looked so bad and un-edible, I see why he calls his family for food often, it looked like alpo. The security guard, he kept walking outside for phone breaks constantly! How are you watching the front when you are on the phone? It just wasn’t safe for faculty or patients but, we are in the age of the phone and no one can let it go not even for their job. I’m going to speak to my family about the condition here, we honestly feel that the location needs to be inspected. If the staff is short, which I’m sure it is.. hire a 3rd party company to thoroughly deep clean this place, the patients need to recover, not continue to remain ill. I agree with a review that was left previously, “If you love and care for your loved one, don’t send them here!”"
"Please, if you or a loved one is thinking of coming here for medical care, find somewhere else to go. I know the job market is rough and there are staffing issues in the healthcare field in many hospitals, not just this location, but that does not excuse the unprofessional and borderline cruel experience my family had here. My father was in their care for a few weeks, and came out in a worse state than he was, despite their promise of progress. They promised regular therapy, but his speech therapists didn't show up for DAYS on one occasion because "we just didn't get to him", and then the excuse for the next day was "one girl called out sick" so they decided to cancel last minute. Meanwhile, my dad is going the whole time on NPO protocol that they insisted he do, having to wait until it was convenient for them to come work with him. It ended up with him having his tracheotomy far longer than needed, and costing us more money. The nights were the worst, though, since we didn't trust to leave him in their care without a family member there, but had no choice. The night nurses never came when he called them (be it for pain, emergency, etc.) with the call button, and barely did it when he had to resorting to calling out to them VOCALLY for help. This negligence got so bad that after an hour of no one coming to assist him, he tried move on his own a bit to help himself and ended up falling and busting his nose. Only when they heard a crash & him cursing from pain did they bother to get up and help him, all while criticizing him for doing it in the first place. This man had a traumatic brain injury, and they were being downright cruel and dismissive towards him the entire time (with the exception of one or two nurses), which is hard to watch as his family member who just wants to see him get better. But it felt more like a hospice center than LTAC. This place was a holding cell, and we couldn't get out fast enough. When we were finally able to transfer out, he had developed a bed sore and his morale was depleted, plus a hurt nose. Please, find somewhere else."
"12 17 2018 Charge nurse on today's shift was the most rude unprofessional nurse that spoke down to my sister as we requested to speak with her regarding a concern with our nurse today who is caring for our mom. She tried to handle us both by forcefully trying to control the situation. If she didn't like what we were saying she interrupted us mid sentence yet requested to be heard. I had to inform her it doesn't work like that in professional conversations. As a customer we are unhappy as to how we were treated by the morning charge nurse who topped the day off by refusing to give her name to my sister when asked twice walking down the hall. Nurses are people too as I tell everyone. We come to work as humans stressed worried about our lives family and LIFE and sometimes we bring that to work with us. I alway advise family members to be bedside frequently yet as nurses we are held to a higher standard of PROFESSIONAL ISM as the faces of hospitals where CUSTOMERS/CONSUMERS are not to be spoken too rudely nor handled rough. I shall say this after making the manager aware and requesting another nurse we got one that was more multitasking, communicative and knowledgeable of policyis un 12 18 2018 After yesterday's issue another occurred that I shall be discussing with my sister's for another option of hospital. I got off work from Gradybto arrive to my mother experiencing spasms so bad they were drawing up her legs and visually came be seen. I informed the nurse at change of shift who did not seem tk care by her lacl of proactivity. I had to light a fire of advocacy for my mom to get a muscle spasm med. My mom moaned for literally 7:25 p.m. til I left at 9: pt p.m. after I literally had to get the house supervisor involved over the matter. It was very stressful having to watch my mother my loved one experience this while her grand child came to visit her. I basically had to push the night nurse to get my mother robaxin as well as address my mother's constipation. You canonly give a patient with a history of impaction miralax so pften till you realize it isn't working and up treatment. Mind you my mother can not speak forherself and it was agonizing watching her suffer as the night nurse seemed ok knowing she was spasming and didn't care to call the MD natuarlly to advocate for a muscle spams I did. I had to get off work from Grady to be a nurse here. Again I say a higher level of nursing of leadership had to step in and handle the issue. I wish for her to go to Cobb hospital where I personally know where she would not have been cared for like that. Charlene was amazing as well as the RT personnel who said she'd keep an eye out. I also had to pry on my mother's scd as the tech left then discarded in the corner. I lost total trust. Yolanda Sealey 12/26/2018 Sister went to visit mom she was soaked mid back to pillows under her feet. Upon my assessment the purewic wasn't sunctioning. The nurse argued it was from the tube and I attempted to get her to comprehend it wasn't through the wix. To prove her wrong I dipped the purewic into a cannister of water and lo and behold no suction. It was at that point the nurse then sided with me. I then inquired about checking my mom at med pass and vitals and neither her nor the tech could give me a reasonable answer. As I stand at the nursing station right now the charge nurse is talking about how short staffed they are. They have new admissions coming every day short staffed to which means they can not keep up with patient's like my mother who are totally dependent on them for care. My sister's and I are up here everyday endlessly because of lack of trust in some nurses and techs. The only part of the care team on point and we haven't had an issue with is RT (respiratory therapy) I am ever so disappointed in this facility whose claim was stellar care. Yolanda Sealey 1/8/2019 My moms nurse and I were going through the meds she was giving my Mom & interrupted by a aggressive nurse complaining and rushing my Moms nurse to pass meds. Bullying and intimidation is unacceptable in nursing."
