"Good spot with a fun menu. Service can sometimes be a little on the slower side but that's because they can get pretty busy. Staff is friendly and the food is good, but a bit pricey. I don't drink but the bar area seems pretty neat. Parking is no longer an issue now that downtown Gainesville has parking decks and road work is done with. Can get a little loud inside depending where you get seated."

"I always enjoy when historic downtown areas reinvent themselves with new shops and restaurants. Recess is a good example of the potential it has a diverse Southern menu at good prices. The portions are sizable, well-presented, and tasty. We sat at the bar due to big crowd on a Tuesday evening. That’s always a good sign. Our server/bartender worked hard and was making lots of drinks, while staying attentive. I’ll definitely be back when in the area again."
