"This is our first year at Dancemakers and honestly, I am not impressed. I had high hopes but due to my reasons below I'm honestly disappointed. Management The operations manager is rude and lacks professionalism. When corresponding with parents via email her communication is unprofessional and lacks empathy. Some people should not be the voice/communication of a company and honestly, the operations manager would be better behind the scenes. The owners are okay - one twin is definitely nicer and more personable than the other. Dance Teachers The only consistent teacher my daughter had was her ballet / tap teacher. Though I loved her acro teacher, she hardly showed up. Possibly due to personal reasons but, there's absolutely no communication to parents notifying of a substitute. Our acro performance during the spring recital would have been so much better had our acro teacher been consistent and present. Melody has so much to offer and it would be nice to see her more present with the girls. The hip hop teacher (Jasmine) lacked professionalism. She was always late, bopped more than taught dance and wasn't friendly to the girls. That class was a complete waste of money. If there were other Hip Hop teacher options who were serious about the craft, I would consider enrolling my daughter in Hip Hop. Recital Winter recital was nice. The location was convenient but definitely lacked organization backstage; complete chaos. Spring recital location was out the way; all the way in Clayton county to be exact. The recital was ridiculously long. I would recommend earlier recitals and if multiples, have the younger kids perform earlly and older kids in later recital times. There's no reason 3-7 year olds should be out at a recital past 8pm. we didn't leave until 10pm and it started at 6! We had to go all the way to Clayton County two days in a row; one day for rehearsal (which was a disoriented, unorganized hot mess) and the next day for the recital. Parents had to go back and forth from backstage to the show to help our dancers. There was no one guiding us in the back. We had to go outside to another building just to change our kids clothes. There were no fans, AC's -nothing back there. Considering this dance companies status, I really was not expecting the subpar experience that we've had. I'm going to give Dancemakers the benefit of the doubt due to them relocating to the West Midtown area this past dance season. My hope is that it goes back to being the great female black owned dance studio it's known for."
"DanceMakers is a great place for our brown dancers to get great technique and compete well in the field of dance here in Atlanta. The new location is very nice, however we do miss the convenience of being closer to SW atlanta. My daughters did studio and company. Over the years communication has gotten a lot better but the fees are just insane. It is very expensive to dance in company."
"My daughter has been at Dancemakers for two years now and we love it. They have Great teachers and thorough communication."
