"Dr. Erin was the best individual session therapist I’ve ever had! She made me feel so comfortable and it was easy to open up to her. Ms. Yvonne was an amazing group therapist. Her group really helped me open up my last 2 semester at FSU. Couldn’t ask for anyone better!"
"The older I get, the more it upsets me that I did not receive the help I needed sooner. When I was seeing a counselor at FSU about 6 years ago, they were not a good fit for me, but I was not allowed to change counselors. Anytime I brought up something challenging during a session, my counselor seemed to quickly avert the conversation to something else so I wouldn't talk about my issues. Many sessions had filler time, taking strangely long periods scheduling the next meeting or focusing on inconsequential topics that I wasn't seeking counseling about, all of which felt like an attempt to make me feel like I didn't actually need counseling. Maybe I didn't know how to articulate myself or my issues as well when I was 23 years old. But then again, this was the same year my dad died, and that seems like something which would seem logical to bring up. I only remember bringing up a dream I had about him, and I didn't get the impression the counselor felt comfortable with me crying or opening up about this during a session. I deserved help then, and I did not receive it, unfortunately. But I still remember how kind the front desk ladies were, though, and they always put me in a good mood."
"I had a really good experience with a short session this week. I was nervous that this would be a waste because university counseling gets a bad rep but I feel that I was matched with someone who was perfect for me. I felt heard, I was able to express my feelings and my issues and the counselor gave me great feedback she let me feel my emotions and she let me cry. Ms. Katherine was wonderful and helped me tremendously in only 60 minutes."
"Super unprofessional. The receptionist always has an attitude and when I went in for services last year, the counselor I saw kept asking if I had violent thoughts or actions rather than asking me what my problem is and how I am doing as a human being. The university should fire and replace the receptionist. Hopefully, during my next visit. I can see an actual counselor who is willing to work with me. Mental health does NOT mean you are crazy. It just means that sometimes. Talking to a trained professional can be better than talking to friends and family, in regard to finding an emotional support system."
"I have been going to appointments since my freshman year and have taken advantage of their individual, group, and couples counseling. Ms. Debbie at the front is always welcoming and my counselors have been great. My mental health has improved dramatically and I would not be as functioning as I am not without having used their services. If you go for a walk-in appointment in the morning, you can be seen well within an hour. I've never waited more than 15 minutes."
