Reviews of MST Services
"Great treatment model with excellent tools to disrupt at-risk behaviors. When the team (treatment team and family leadership) adheres to the model, outcomes are usually really good and fairly quick. BUT it takes guts! No guts, no glory! MST is truly a common sense approach to behavior change: (1) identify the at-risk behaviors, (2) determine what promotes the at-risk behaviors, (3) determine what disrupts the at-risk behaviors, (4) develop a plan that will result in the desired behavior changes, (5) anticipate what could go wrong and have a strategy to deal with it, (6) revise the plan as needed to insure sustainability of the desired behaviors, and (7) strengthen the family's support network. The overarching goal is to empower the family leadership to develop and lead successful strategies for prosocial and productive living. It is unreasonable to expect the out-of-control teenager to be the driver of the needed changes. The needed changes MUST begin at the leadership level in the home. Until the out-of-control person has to feel the natural consequences and pain caused by his/her own behavior, the problem behavior will not change. Too often family leaders take on the consequences and pain for the out-of-control person. Allow the consequences and pain to do their job which is to drive change within the source of the problem. It is often ill-advised to mix treatment models as one reviewer indicated a desire to do. Families can't get the most out of MST unless they are willing to get fully on board with the treatment process - none of this one foot on the dock and one foot in the boat thinking. Commit to the process and you will most likely see positive changes in your home."
"I have been an MST Supervisor for a Michigan team for over 4 years, and I have had nothing but positive experiences with MST Services. Everyone that I have had contact and communications with has been wonderful, supportive, and extremely helpful! MST is an amazing organization and I am honored to be a part of it!!"
"I have worked with the MST Lincoln team for approximately 5 years. I have had the privilege to work with a large number of families in that time that were struggling with their youth's mental health, substance use, negative peer groups, problems at school, going through the juvenile court process and managing legal charges. Sometimes all of these at one time. I was able to explain to families during that time that my intention of being there wasn't to fix things for them, it was to help the family and other systems working with their child to help manage them on their own while maintaining them in their own home. This is what we are trained to do. Helping the families manage these struggles on their own is much more sustainable than having the youth or family dependent on a therapist for the change. We empower the families we work with in this way. We have been able to help numerous families manage these things on their own, successfully. So if you are a parent, struggling with these tough teenage problems, and would like to learn how to manage it on your own to prevent future problems, MST Lincoln will absolutely be the place to go."
"In the past year the Lincoln MST therapists have served 104 youth and families in and around the Lincoln area. At the end of MST treatment, 90% of these youths were living in the home, 95% in school or working, and 87% had not been arrested. Additional outcomes include 86% of the families were sustaining their progress at closure, 94% of the families reported improved family relations, and 86% of the youth were involved with prosocial activities. I am appreciative of the MST therapists desire to help youth and families through many years of work in the Lincoln area and look forward to seeing the results of their hard work and commitment to increasing family functioning and keeping youth in the home where they belong in the years to come."
"We worked with Melissa and she was very unprofessional and didn't follow through on much that she said. She did not follow the therapy guidelines she was supposed to follow and she focused more on the biological than the permanent adoptive family of our child than she did to help our family that was the reason for having services. She has lied to my face, gone against our house rules, twisted words, as well as not worked with another program which she had a referral to do so. Another program as well as myself have been waiting approximately 2mo to receive treatment plan and primarily diagnosis and still have yet to receive them and have been discharged from the program AFTER it was said that there was progress to be made and told we would receive services for 4mo! My family worked with the Lincoln office and do not have anything positive to say about how our case was handled one bit! If you need support in your home please find a way to be referred to Families Inspiring Families, we have had nothing but support from Wendy and she is the one that brought our family back together and had us working on things to help communication and she has done more in 1 appt weekly than I feel we accomplished in 3 appts weekly with the therapist! We feel that our case was sabotaged for vocalizing what I felt we were lacking as well as letting therapist know that I wanted her working with another program and I feel as if they chose not to follow the guidelines and do just that with a signed release, feel as if they wanted no part of working with Right Turn or Families Inspiring Families and washed their hands of the case."
