Reviews
"Marissa with Restorative Counseling Services is incredible as a clinician and provides attentive and quality care. She is highly skilled and collaborative in her care of clients."
"It took me a while to submit this review (over a year) because my exposure to another practice helped me validate just how poor my experience was at Restorative. I had temporary concerns about cost at this practice during a time that I was caring for a very sick parent, who passed just months after my last visit here. I was given a form to request a sliding scale but it was rejected solely based on income with no considerations for circumstances. Not that Restorative invented the sliding scale process or anything, but it is inequitable to assess affordability solely on income and legal dependents. The right thing to do is simply work with each client and their individual circumstances if your goal is to actually create opportunities. To avoid a change in care during this tough time, I decided to continue visits at a pace I could afford, which was 1-2x a month, and looked to supplement with other affordable forms of care. At a later point, I requested help from my therapist, Kat, with resources (outside of this practice) I believed I needed in addition to my current care plan with her. As a result of that request, I was dropped by the practice because I did not come often enough. I was told that I am welcome to come back only if I change my pace to coming in once a week or every other week, but until then my chart will be closed, meaning that I am no longer seen as a client and my upcoming session would be canceled. This is not an assumption or exaggeration, but the exact explanation I was provided in an email. How confusing is it that this is the same practice that refused to work with me on cost so that I could come more often? And now I was being REQUIRED to come more often to receive any care whatsoever. Looking back, I cannot imagine a more inconsiderate approach. A client- oriented solution could have been to offer a specific number of discounted sessions until I found a new practice OR to simply allow me to continue to come at the pace I was comfortable paying for. But it is clear that this decision was more about their needs than mine. To summarize my experience at Restorative, there was an aura of privilege that made me feel as if I was not welcome with my particular set of circumstances. It really is not hard to recognize that someone who is high earning from an underprivileged background and someone who is high earning after countless years of generational wealth and stability do not have the same economic access and opportunities. And while I did not have issues directly tied to my race, I do believe my experience reflected an inability to recognize and empathize with the indirect implications of a Black experience. This was not a safe space for me as a Black woman from an underprivileged background. I write this in hopes that no one else has this experience. And to be as fair as possible, I am only addressing my experience outside of actual sessions with Kat. I am giving some stars because I do not have concerns about the sessions. This is in regards to cost, scheduling, external resources, determining a plan of care, and how I did not feel valued as a client here overall, which required interaction with the director, Marissa in addition to Kat. As I mentioned before, this experience was a little while ago and I genuinely hope that this practice has already improved their support for clients from all walks of life, especially those who are committed to growing with this practice. And if not, there are better options out there."
"Marissa is an exceptional clinician. She’s warm, engaging and committed to providing quality services. I have known her for years and am continually impressed by her desire to stay informed of and trained in evidence-based treatments. I fully trust her clinical knowledge and judgment. She’s an expert in the field and someone that I feel extremely confident referring to. At Restorative Counseling, there are a team of clinicians who offer a range of services and specialties. As a therapist myself, I wholeheartedly recommend Marissa and the team at Restorative Counseling! So grateful to have a place like this to refer people to in our community."
"Jamie Miller and I completed a year of our internships together at the counseling center for students at the University of Arkansas. During that time, I got to see Jamie's professional work and I got to know her personally. She cares so deeply for her clients and is always assessing the needs of her clients to personalize their experience. She is creative in session and does her research on what techniques/interventions will be best for that particular client. She creates the most warm, authentic, and safe space for her clients. She is such a beautiful soul who creates such meaningful connections. I would highly recommend her as a therapist!"
"I've known Marissa for several years and have sat with her in clinical consultations, as well as discussed business development and consulting. She genuinely desires to serve the client and her team, and does so wisely. Restorative Counseling is a reliable and safe place to go when needing help. I would trust my family and friends with her or the team she leads."
