"He helped me a lot with therapy for my son, I am forever grateful"
"I waited for a long time to leave this review. Partly because I have a sense of endearment for Mr. Miller. Another part of me realizes that we are at an all time high of mental illness and traumatic issues and people need to find good therapy. My first experience of Mr. Miller was through a call. I was looking for DBT and Mr. Miller said he does have DBT experience but he felt CBT would be necessary before engaging in DBT. I knew that the areas that my husband and I struggled with required better management of anger, that I felt DBT could provide. I went along with Mr. Miller's expertise and began couples therapy using CBT. Mr. Miller's style of therapy is heavily using talk therapy. In couples therapy, he frequently would focus on areas that were challenging in our relationship and tried to bring awareness of what was going on (one heavily focused theme of his-"men act out women talk out"). I didn't see major improvements in our relationship other than the much needed time together such as going out for a coffee/tea. One area that my husband and I struggled the most was his need to control and overpower me. Mr. Miller would teeter back and forth between who he would focus his therapy on. After the Jada, Will, Chris R. fiasco and much of the world ruminating on the happenings, I had a very heated discussion with my husband about the situation. I expressed that although I probably wouldn't do what he did, I could understand why he did it, and in a situation involving something like my child, I could see myself doing the same. My husband began adamantly berating my opinion. We then went to therapy and Mr. Miller immediately from entering the therapy session, began discussing the triangulation between J, W and C. I didn't engage because that's not why I came to therapy. And it also seemed as if he was being goaded into having the conversation based on the convo at home. Mr. Miller spoke for approximately 15 minutes about it without a word from myself or my husband. He even stopped, started talking about something else and resumed back on the topic. Eventually I gave in and began discussing. Mr. Miller, like my husband began berating my opinion. I told him that his opinion was his opinion. He stated that it's the truth. "WS was wrong." I continued to share what my opinion was and then I realized that Mr. Miller just continued staring at my husband the entire time he was talking about it. At that time, I shared that it was my opinion that men that have a problem with it are threatened by what WS did because it exposes them for what they aren't doing. I also stated that what was even more striking that the entire time we were discussing this, he was staring directly at my husband. Mr. Miller then said, he was looking at him because he's the leader of our family. I felt like I was in an episode of the Handmaid Tale's. Are you serious? Is this even current times? I immediately said this session is over. I stood up and told Mr. Miller that I am a living, breathing, thinking, individual outside of my husband and how dare he minimize my existence to just being a wife to my husband. Furthermore, we were there for couple's therapy not husband therapy. He and my husband then began stating he always looked at just my husband ,which isn't true. All I could say is, although I don't believe Mr. Miller intended for that conversation to go that way; that discussion was not a part of our therapy session. In fact, I didn't engage in the first 15 min because it wasn't part of our therapy session. I also think that Mr. Miller being that he works closely with men, may have some underlying issues with women based on his behavior. And a few other issues I won't mention. Mr. Miller isn't a Christian therapist and although he's used Christian aspects, it is not the reason I chose his practice, so to use a reference like "leader" doesn't fit the paradigm. I really wished this therapy could've worked. I believe opinions need to be respected not berated because of your position as a man or therapist."
