"I'm a parent of a student there, and I don't care for University Commons. All of the buildings and the contents within the dorms are dated and in need of a remodel/ replacement. The only reason I gave 2 hrs is because the security is about the best you'll get on campus housing."
"I’m here for a summer research program and it is quite nice. There’s linen services, there’s good community areas, there’s plenty of laundry. The RA’s and Staff are nice and help when prompted. The 2 bed, 2 bath apartments (with a shared common space) are very nice and I find it hard to hear my roommate from his room. The one downside I do know of — from both experience and talk of ATL — is that the RaceTrac in front of Commons is a hub for a bunch of iffy activity. Right now, since many students are out for the year, there’s less traffic but I know during the school year this has been the site of a few flash mobs. For parents and students alike: beware. People around ATL think it is fun to bring guns everywhere."
"I really love how tight the security is here, it makes me feel safe compared to other dorms. It’s a little bit of a hassle to get my bike out through the security gates, but the people working the gates are very nice and very helpful. As for the dorm rooms, I am in a four person private room, and I’ve undergone about five rearrangements of the room, and it’s just big enough to move stuff around without removing items from the room. I believe they have stopped allowing lofting so that means no desk under your bed. it’s a little pricey, but it’s an OK distance from the actual campus and there’s a bus that stops here. Keep in mind, there is no dining hall in this dorm!! The closest one to the entrance is the central dining hall. The only big con is the race track next door. There are always car meet ups and people like to race down the roads here. The sounds of gunshots, sirens, fireworks, will be loud if your window faces the roads, so make sure to invest in noise canceling headphones!"
"Really impressive for a college dorm, much more like an apartment building. Honors College floors seem a bit extra nice. A dishwasher!? They had a great system for move in day. A significant homeless issue outside, but very secure to get in."
