"My father is in fear for his safety. Has been there for a few years with 0 DRs. His request for a transfer was denied with 0 explanation despite his concerns. Talked to Ombudsman and they said it was up to the warden ultimately. Under staffed as most US prisons are sadly. The justice system as a whole is a joke. America leads the world in incarcerated individuals, and most of them reoffend. That’s because prison isn’t a rehabilitation it’s a money grab! Privately owned! The federal government has been looking into GA prisons finally and hoping some change will come from this. Stop treating people like animals."
"They set visiting hours for 9am-3pm yet whenever I have gone my visit doesn't start until at least ten or eleven because they say they don't have enough staff and have to wait for someone to run the visits, there has not been any A/C, no one ever answers the phone and I ordered my husband a package a month ago that he still hasn't received it. The counselor's dont counsel because its several things they are supposed to do on the inmates behalf including but not limited to putting in paperwork on the inmates behalf. God Bless the souls of any inmate that has to go to this hell on earth."
"I see all of the bad reviews, my son is there and I haven't experience any rude behavior from the staff as of yet. Maybe he hasn't been there long enough I don't know. They may have modified some of the protocol at the prison since the reviews. If you haven't spoken to your love one sign up for jpay if you haven't already and you can take full advantage of communication with your love ones. You can video, email, send pictures, cards etc.., The inmate should have a tablet as well. My son counselor was very helpful and nice and every time I have called with a concern or to get clarification on anything some one calls me back from the counselor to the supervisor. The only person that I haven't spoke to was the warden but all of the administrators answered my question so I assume there was no need to talk to the warden. I can confirm that I heard from the inmates that they are on lock down and treated as a maximum security prison. So I inquired about their recreation time and was told that as of right now they are short staffed but they do allow recreation but just a building at a time. I can confirm they are short staff because i visit my son often and most times it's been one officer registering visitors and its really a 2 or 3 person task. Just to add some positive and truthful feedback. Although there is nothing positive about incarceration but the truth is he is there."
"Autry state prison needs someone to go in there and clean house. My son has been on lockdown for the majority of the time he's been in there, and not for anything he has done I understand your rights are takin away when you go to prison but his charge does not deserve this. It is unhealthy for the Prisoners and the staff for them to go weeks with no shower and not including their mental state. It's unfair for the good prisoners to pay for what some idiot did in their building. I can't get them to even answer the phone so I can talk with someone about what's going on. They are asked to go to classes so they can get paroled but if they are in lockdown they can't go to the classes, how fair is this. Something needs to change for the positive in this prison, it's unhealthy for everyone."
"I was in Autry in 1993 when it first opened and I sure hope it's changed over the years. No matter how good you tried to do the officers was always trying to keep you down. Warden Bass would sick his Cert team on you if you had any complaints. I was pulled out of my quarters at 3am one morning because I wrote to Warden about how my wife was treated at visitation. They put a whoop ass on me and then put in hole until I healed up. At the time I was classified as trustee security. I was trying to do right so I could get home. I finally got out after 2years and haven't ever been back again. Just hope things are better cause the inmates are humans too."
