Department of Military Science

The Department of Military Science is a school located at 4110 East Lindsay Drive in Columbus, Georgia, United States. The institution offers Army ROTC (Reserve Officers' Training Corps), a college elective that allows students to earn a commission as a second lieutenant in the active-duty Army, Army Reserve or Army National Guard. The program consists of academic classes and hands-on training, providing mental and physical challenges that help students succeed in college and beyond.

The Office of Admissions, Office of Student Accounts, Financial Aid Office, and Office of the Registrar are open Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM to assist students with any inquiries. Students interested in applying for financial aid are encouraged to complete their FAFSA application on the Federal Student Aid website.

Participation in the ROTC program only requires a few hours a week, allowing students to balance their studies, sports, and social life. Students will learn about leadership, teamwork, and have the opportunity to develop skills like mountaineering, rappelling, and orienteering. Enrolling in MSAL 1215/MSAL 1215L in the fall or MSAL 1216/MSAL 1216L in the spring is open to anyone without any obligation to join the military, with all books and equipment provided at no cost.

Upon completion of the program, students will graduate with a four-year degree and be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army, with a starting salary exceeding $45,000 for active-duty second lieutenants. The institution has historically enrolled 95-145 cadets in its Cougar Battalion since the early 1970s.
