"I've made hair appointments here twice. One time was a wash, blowdry and cut. The service was great, and I loved the outcome. The second time, I made an appointment to get some short knotless braids. I was told the process was that I had to first make a consultation appointment where I would be paired with a stylist and let them know what braids I want and decide on the time. I did that and was paired with a stylist and made an appointment for a week later, I filled out the documents and everything. The day of the appointment, I got there on time ready to get my hair braided and they couldn't find my appointment paper. The receptionist knew who was set to do my hair and went to check on that stylist. They then told me that the stylist wasn't available because she was filming something, I'm not sure what she was filming because an appointment with me was made beforehand. They tried to find another stylist but realistically no one is going to want to do impromptu braids with a 2 minute notice. I was very disappointed with how it was handled given that I did everything in their process; did the in person consultation first then made the appointment. The stylist I booked with didn't even come out herself to tell me. They sent someone else to tell me.If the stylist was going to be filming something, they could've called me and we could've worked out a reschedule, but they didn't. I was so hurt and annoyed since I had moved things around in my schedule to work with the stylist's schedule but there was no respect for my time. While my first experience was great, the way the second experience was handled is the reason for this rating. Respect people's time!!"
"Paul Mitchell School Of Atlanta couldn't have a better teacher than Ms. Zee. I appreciate how she breaks down her lesson and keeps the students entertained with her personality and knowledge of what she's teaching. The cutting and color class was epic."
"Ms. Zee has been a great learning leader in my experience with Paul Mitchell. She has helped me grow in my journey and encourages me to keep going. Ms. Zee is always on the floor making sure people are staying on track, helping those in need, and hosts classes to help us have a better understanding and chance to successfully pass the state board. I have learned a lot from Ms. See as she is one of few learning leaders committed and dedicated to helping all the students succeed."
"*Note: This review doesn't reflect all Staff and Instructors at PMTSA, but definitely reflects the MAJORITY of them. There are [few] good staff and instructors making valid efforts* First of all, let me say that the people IN CHARGE of this school have been pulling students (who leave HONEST low-rated reviews) into the office and forcing them to delete their 1 star google reviews. That in itself shows how messy, dishonest and lackadaisical to student's concerns and criticisms they are---to better the staff and school system at PMTS ATL. They rather avoid the feedback than address and fix the issues and that is unacceptable for any educational institution. You could ask anyone who goes here and 9/10 would tell you that the $23,000 they were trapped into paying was NOT WORTH IT for the FOLLOWING REASONS: 1. We are taking core/theory(online) classes that have no instructor involvement. In the core classes we've taken/taking the majority of student feel that we leave/left core learning nothing. The teachers will assign work and we are left to figure it out ourselves. We have/had few classes focused on specializations such as balayage and texture classes but nothing else. By the time we get to the floor/are about to get on the floor, we are extremely unprepared. Most of us agree that we are so happy our theory classes are online because at least we LEARN even if it means we have to learn by ourselves at least there is some kind of structure and information being communicated albeit through a computer and not from a teacher. 2. We aren't explained how the color bar works, we aren't thoroughly taught color theory especially in regards to the Paul Mitchell Color system. We are expected to know already and when it's time for students to work the color bar most of us feel overwhelmed especially on busy days, and this causes delays and slows efficiency for students busy with clients. 3. The teachers in charge of the floor will literally sit around and not help the students taking clients. When a student is with a client there should be a teacher present, aware, and ready to jump in and help, that's what is expected of teachers at any cosmetology school---so why are the teachers hard to find, unavailable and not involved? Especially in regards to students with CLIENTS? We aren't taught how to take clients properly, so this is extremely detrimental to our success in school and to our professional careers, a lot of us feel discouraged to take clients in school and are rethinking our pursuit of cosmetology as a career, which is sad considering some of us are young and came here thinking we'd be fulfilling a dream to pursue our passions. Paul Mitchell was this image of success in the industry with emphasis on celebrating the expression of creativity through hair and makeup, etc. The experience we're receiving is killing that. 4. Ask students to describe PMTSA in one word and the answers most repeated is: GHETTO, Messy, Unprofessional I'm sad because I've heard this (ghetto) about PMTSA from other cosmetology school students and the general Atlanta Consensus of cosmetology students/graduates (Aveda, Elaine Sterling, Health and Style, Tony and Guy) share this impression. 5. The financial aid people are never in their office and hard to find/unavailable. 7. Not all---but a lot---of teachers/staff here are extremely RUDE to students. 6. Finally, the climate at PMTSA is so unprofessional and messy that everyone (students) are negative and feeling down about their education. It's hard for some of us to bring ourselves to come to school because we just don't want to deal with the climate which is now the "culture" PMTSA has created from their neglectful and unprincipled behavior. A lot of students are on edge, people are getting into verbal altercations and making witnessing students uncomfortable and more discouraged from being here. A lot of us feel stuck and regretful and that is unacceptable. Please read/make an effort to address and FIX these issues. Thanks. -Anonymous compiled complaints (2023-2024)"
"Amazing results! Essence has amazing talent and has given me the best results the two times I have been there. First time was an all over blonding session with a bit of root, and it came out perfectly. Today I went in for something completely different, a peekaboo color and brown on top. I am super happy with the results and am in love with my new look. Mr.John gave some assistance, and you can clearly see that he is very knowledgeable and friendly as well. I can not recommend Essence enough, and I look forward to returning. Thank you!"
