Reviews of Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital
"Has spine surgery there last week. It will be my preferred hospital from now. Staff was very nice, nurses were kind and helpful. The only downside is the food sucks."
"I do not know where to start! I can say that the visit did not end the way it started and, for that, I'm grateful! I was experiencing chest pains and difficulty breathing Sunday morning and was TRYING to get to St. Francis. I wasn't very confident in your hospital being able to handle my issue. However, the more I drove, the more uncomfortable I became! I got to a point where I could not breathe so I came there (AGAINST MY BETTER JUDGEMENT!) I couldn't even park. I pulled up to the front and got out of my car, leaving my valuables and phone in the car with the keys. I presented to the desk and could not speak! Tears in my eyes, the lady behind the desk asked me what was wrong and I could NOT verbalize it. I could only point to my chest. I finally got the words chest pain out, crying and she GAVE ME A FORM TO FILL OUT AND TOLD ME TO HAVE A SEAT IN THE WAITING AREA! OMG! I WAS TERRIFIED! I THOUGHT I WAS DYING! As a Registered Nurse for the last 29 years, I KNOW there are certain conditions that are immediately triaged! Chest pains is one! You only have minutes to respond to a cardiac emergency! I'm not going to delve into the racial disparities that come to mind when accessing the healthcare delivery system -- even when you are a part of it! I was the only patient there! She let me stand there for over 5 minutes. Then I went to the desk and handed her the clipboard because I couldn't complete the forms. I was in too much pain! I RECOMMEND RE-TRAINING your staff that mans your front desk to identify acute emergent situations that will need immediate attention. The triage nurse acted like my situation was not emergent either! This, again, reminds me of the research and incidents that cite how African American patients (especially women) are treated. Our pain is not seen as an immediate need and we are often not offered the same care as our Caucasian peers. I told no one that I was a nurse because that should not have made a difference! The only thing that save this visit was my grade school classmate recognizing my name and coming to check on me! Kimberly Burts was a sight for sore eyes and she assisted me the way the first woman SHOULD have! Kimberly, the nurse who took care of me was AMAZING -- compassionate care, knowledgeable and proficient in our trade! And she did it with a SMILE -- which calmed me down considerably. Dr. Conklin did a great job being thorough and ruling out my concerns that my visit was cardiac in nature. PLEASE work DILIGENTLY on your FRONT LINE personnel! They are CRITICAL to your operation and if you are going to give them such a grave responsibility -- you bear the consequences of what happens when they come up DEFICIENT! Even with the EXCELLENT care I received on the back end, I can't say that it overpowers what I had to go THRU to get to the back where the great service was! Think on that!"
"The reception staff were excellent. When I walked up to the front desk, she took my name and info and asked me to sit in the waiting area. A few minutes later a woman took me into a room and processed my information and got me administratively ready for my CT scan. I returned to the waiting room where I expectantly awaited my appointment. The appointment was at 1230, at 1250 I went back. The three individuals behind the partition were carrying on a conversation that was VERY distracting (something you might hear in a middle school gym class). That seemed a little unprofessional to me and I left completely unamused and frustrated with the whole ordeal."
"Just got home from Jack Hughston hospital, were I had a complete knee replacement. From the start, I was treated with the up most respect. They was so kind and took care of our very need. I must say, if I could give everyone a 5 star, I truly would. I couldn't have asked for no better service than what we received. A job well done. You receive 5 stars from me."
