Reviews of Atlanta VA Medical Center
"Disappointed I have to go to this VA now, it is definitely subpar compared to the Bay Pines VA I transferred from when I moved. My records have not been processed properly even after 6 months. I also somehow got dropped from continuous appointments in Mental Health and Eye clinic even though they were needed. The parking is stupid, I don't know how they planned for such a small amount of real estate for medical facilities and parking for the entire Atlanta metro and beyond. They have to constantly send you to clinics for issues that should be able to be handled here at this location. But again, not enough space. I have to go to another clinic for dental, cleanings are about once a year instead of every 6 months like is standard at my last VA. Reimbursement for travel have been denied for ridiculous reasons (ie not claimed within 30 days) that would not be if I claimed the same thing at the last VA. There are some people that are genuinely helpful, thankfully my PCM is very competent and many specialists doctors and nurses have been greay but I have to compare this VA to others. There shouldn't be a difference between VAs in different locations or states but there certainly is."
"Why is it so hard to get anything done. My doctor put in lab order for me. I went to Ft McPherson VA (it’s closer to my job) to get the lab work. I was told they can not do the lab work there at Ft. McPherson and that I would have to come to the main VA. I come to main VA to be told I have no labs in the system. I ask the lab tech to check and see when the labs were drawn. I was told my labs were drawn this morning at Ft. McPherson. I explain to the lab tech that I did not get labs drawn. And I asked what can be done, I was told I would have to go over to Ft. McPherson and have them reverse the order. I asked can she call over and ask them to reverse the order, I was told NO!!!! So I called over to Ft. McPherson and of course there is no direct number and was told the would they would send a message to the lab. I got to the VA at 7:30 AM. It is now 10AM and this matter still has not been resolved."
"When will they close these fictitious veteran facilities that don't give a damn about the veterans? Have we not reached a point in VA healthcare history where there are enough problems and delays in care that veterans with health concerns of all kinds, including mental health issues, should have the option to seek care from private providers (beyond the scope of community care, which can take up to 90 days to review for approval)? In this way, we can create a VA insurance program that is far more effective than the current one, one that does not have a small number of doctors at each VA hospital or clinic that serves roughly a thousand veterans annually, thereby maintaining the outdated and inadequate traditional VA service model."
"Stay away!!! Especially with prosthetics who think it's OK to provide VETERANS with used equipment only to line their own pockets. Thank you Shererlle Griffin."
"As a recent retiree, I have heard all the stories about how terrible the VA is, and after my experience at another clinic didn’t start so well, I was thinking the stories must be true. I came here to get my medicines refilled as I have transitioned from active duty. The staff member in the pharmacy could not help me because the active duty system does not merge with the VA system, but she was very nice and explained what I needed to do. I got to the ER and was pleasantly surprised that multiple members of the staff were very nice and helpful! I was triaged very quickly and staff member told me to have a seat to wait until the right people could do what needed to be done. The above is all fine and good, but to simply get the medications I was waiting for three hours! That destroys all the positives! I would rather they be rude and get me out in a timely efficient manner. Another issue I had was the lack of signs from the parking area directing you to anything. I walked around for a while trying to find the right place to go to. Bathrooms in the ER are disgusting and have obviously not been cleaned in quite some time! Overall, it was very frustrating and I immediately saw why people complain about VA hospitals. I would not recommend this facility, if you are able, try and go to one of the smaller VA clinics to try and expedite your visit, although, I don’t think that is a guarantee with the overall systemic customer service issues that need to be addressed."
