CHI Memorial

"My dad had been experiencing elevated blood pressures over the weekend so, there was no other options, we knew my dad needed to be at Memorial for their excellent heart care if he were to be admitted. We drove to the ER, and got checked in. Once we were triaged, the Nurse Practicioner came in for a brief assessment. She asked a series of questions and performed a neurological assessment on him to assess for stroke. Obviously, no stroke, but high BP readings. They ranged anywhere from 168/90, 180/110, to 200/90 with flank pain. The NP ran a series of tests on him including an EKG, chest x ray, blood work, and CT scan of the brain. She was thorough and we appreciate that. She did not want to give anything for his blood pressure out of fear it might cause a stroke if it drastically dropped. While I understand this, I also know even if an individual is in a hypertensive urgency (not yet a crisis), the blood pressure still needs to come down slowly, within a 24-48 hour period to prevent going into a crisis and causing organ damage. I wished they would have taken his temperature as well, even though a number was put down on his discharge sheet, along with bilateral breath sounds, when no stethoscope was even used. They also didn't ask for my dad's list of medications he was on for his high blood pressure, including additional supplements that may or may not be interactive with his BP meds. I'm all for a thorough assessment in the ER, but I'd like to have seen it actually done. When someone has flank pain, it could be an indicator of a kidney infection, which should prompt anyone to take a temperature. It wasn't even taken during triage when we first arrived, just BP. I still was appreciative in my dad's care, and I know every provider has their way of doing things as research might change, but it's risky to send someone home with severe numbers not starting an IV, and giving fluids."

"I am extremely disappointed in the CHI Memorial Clinic on Gunbarrel with how the change in physicians was handled. My physician left the middle of December but I was not notified until January. In the letter I was told of new physicians taking over and that I would be taken care of. I had an appointment already scheduled for the first week of Feb. and assumed someone would see me. No! My appointment was canceled without me being notified. I am a senior who takes several medications. So now I have no doctor and no way to get refills on medications. When you call the office you can't get an appointment or help. I certainly expected better of Memorial."

"I recently had a posterior laminectomy cervical spine surgery and have had Memorial Home Health making home visits. I have had the best of care! The first nurse, Bhavin, was so patient and gentle trying to get glue out of my hair from the bandage and tape. He took alcohol swabs and very gently cleaned all around my incision, apologizing for any discomfort he caused. I’ve also enjoyed the regular visits from Cortney.. Cortney is so smart and compassionate and any company would be fortunate to have her on staff. I recommend Memorial Home Health for anyone needing these services."

"We can’t say enough about my mom’s physical therapist James. He was very professional and kind. We appreciate his patience and gentle manner. He has a sweet personality and he was always punctual. She will miss his visits. Keep up the good work James !!!"

"I only give one star because I do not how to give no stars. My wife was delirious with Covid temp and dehydration. When trying to talk she could not even make out English words to communicate. I called her care giver who informed me I must get her to the hospital ASAP. We live 2 1/2 hrs drive away and she instructed me to start driving now! We arrived at Memorial in record time and then is when the problems began. Her vital signs were taken, a chest X-ray, blood work, and ekg. And then nothing happened. Still slightly disoriented I kept thing they would take her back to a room soon for evaluation and treatment. We continued to wait in the waiting room hour after hour with no explanation. After rushing my wife to the hospital as directed Absolutely nothing was done for approximately 10 hours. This hospital sent the clear message to us that they do not care. Hospitals must have a certificate of need to open their doors. There is absolutely no need for this type of care or lack of. I believe Memorial Hospital should loose its certificate of need for the simple reason there is no need whatsoever for this lack of care in the healthcare system. I have reported this problem to the hospital and have heard nothing from them. Very disappointed."
