"My nonverbal child almost died there. Spent a month in ICU malnutrition, MRSA, SEPTIC, 6 SURGERIES. To this day has constant pain and walks with a limp. They wouldn't take him to the hospital until he no longer would get up and move and wasn't giving correct medication."
"Didn’t know you could still get high and work here. Edward Russell recently started using again and still keeps his job? Hard to believe the lack of repercussions for going back to the same old ways. I won’t stand for this. It hurts my soul to see an addict being rewarded for the same old stuff"
"Necco center review as a former resident Speaking as a former resident, I was at Necco from 84 to 88. I was rescued from my abusive parents in 1980. I was in two other placements before being brought to Necco. Back then it was called the Ohio Center for youth and family development, formally known as Edgemead. Two weeks after I was brought there, the name was suddenly changed which was really confusing and upsetting to nesters who don’t like changes they’re not ready for. The sudden name change and other things that started happening raised big red flags but we couldn’t do nothing but run away or act up. This campus was pretty much out in the middle of nowhere away from town, too far to really walk if you didn’t know your way around. Long story short, things started getting some better for me toward the end of my stay as I was treated better. I was even able to see God‘s hand at work when I was given the top bunk that I so liked and still do. The negative reviews come as a shock to me whereas other things sound kind of familiar. I didn’t know there was corruption among the staff, we teens didn’t know about it. What I do recall though is unfair treatment towards us. There were some broken arms when kids arms were cranked up their backs and twisted: this would’ve possibly been a spiral break. This can happen when kids are held faced to the wall and pressed up against the wall or even in the corner. Worse yet, CP (control position) is performed on the floor face down with the child being held by staff in a pretzel position. This is when arms can more easily be broken. The arms were cranked up kids backs and even twisted at the wrist and forearm. Two arms were broken within days of each other. Back then, they were careful to not hit or assault us in anyway nor did they cuss us out. They were rough in other ways though. I’m sorry to hear there’s been corruption among the staff. I would’ve thought there would’ve been positive changes by now, but I’m sorry to hear there’s been stuff going on that could’ve also been going on in the 80s. Now I understand why some staff stayed longer than others. This review was written because I can see clearly how much improvement some of these state placements really need. If you take these tips from a former student who wants lived on that same campus you can actually put them into practice and help kids instead of hurting them. This will also do yourselves a favor, too along with anyone else who is considering working there. I don’t know how many times Necco has actually undergone different names over the years, but businesses sometimes do that when they’ve been caught doing wrong somewhere along the way. Let kids speak what’s on their hearts and minds, you’d be doing yourself a huge favor! Listen to them. Just because their kids doesn’t necessarily mean they’re always wrong and you’re always right. Work as a team and they won’t work against you"
"I worked at Necco for about 6 months, during my time there I saw staff purposefully abusing the kids or they would find reasons to, I reported this to the supervisors but nothing ever came of it. Secondly the supervisors here are just well, awful they’ll purposefully schedule you to work a shift and not find anyone to cover the second shift thus mandating you into a 16 hour shift, I can’t think of any reason for this other than laziness. Also while working there I worked in a house that had an infestation problem with cockroaches and bed bugs, I had to sit in the middle of the floor as to not get them on my clothes. I ended up calling the health department and the house was condemned shortly after. I tried going to Human Resources with these problems but could never get an answer. HR here is nonexistent. The employees are lazy, about 4 months ago a group of kids snuck out of the house and broke into River Cities and stole many phones and one was incarcerated, all because the staff isn’t disciplined enough to not sleep at work. Necco is really just looking for the dumbest/desperate people who they can pay the absolute least so they can pocket the most money from the state/county. If you are genuinely interested in making a difference in someone's life please look into the Ramey Home, they pay much better and treat their employees very well. This company is just looking for warm bodies to fill positions."
"This is the Sagraves Family giving our testimony as to the care our son receives from Necco, To be honest we were apprehensive about sending him there due to this being the second time he was returned there. This current visit has made such an improvement on our son that we couldn't be more pleased. Everyone has such an interest in his well being and sees to it that all his needs are met. Thank you to the all the staff and teachers alike for the best care possible for our son. Bob and Shara"
