"During our two-day drive home to Iowa from Virginia, we were getting hungry and I pressed "restaurants" on the Google Maps route. It suggested Boomtown Cafe. Yeah... that other guy is right-- this is NOT a restaurant. Shame on you, Google! I can't actually comment on the atmosphere, because my father shut the door just as quickly as he opened it, saying, "Yeah, we're not eating here." A lovely lady (don't know if she was the owner or a patron) followed us out and offered some restaurant selections. That's the main reason for my 5-star rating--that and the fact that it gave us a good story that we've already told twice to friends. But the lady was right: "This is a gamblin' place.""
"Boomtown Cafe is NOT a cafe in even the loosest sense of the word. It is a tiny slot parlor. About 5 or 6 slot machines, and that's it. Not a place to go if you want food or coffee. Locals seem familiar with this fact, but travelers and tourists to Point Pleasant, be warned. All that said, the folks there seemed friendly and the patrons seemed to be having a good time. Probably a fine -- if quite small -- slot parlor, despite it's deceptive name."
