The Commons 39 Sunset Drive, Dahlonega, GA 30533

Located at 39 Sunset Drive in Dahlonega, Georgia, The Commons is a university institution that provides housing for 538 residents, including freshmen and upperclassmen. The co-ed residence hall complex offers suite-style accommodations with single and double occupancy options. Built in 2016, The Commons is situated conveniently across from the University of North Georgia Dining Hall and adjacent to the Walker Drive residential parking deck.

The Commons consists of two buildings. Building 1 houses up to 187 students in single-gender suites, while Building 2 accommodates up to 351 students. Each floor features free laundry facilities, lounge areas, and snack rooms or kitchens. The fully furnished suites include twin beds with XL twin mattresses, desks, chairs, chests, and closets without doors for flexible storage.

With a staff of seventeen resident assistants and one resident director, The Commons provides a supportive and welcoming living environment for students. New student move-in for fall 2023 is by appointment only on August 17, 18, and 19, with classes beginning on August 21. Students must bring their UNG Nighthawks ID card for check-in and access to campus facilities.

Residents are encouraged to bring items that make them feel comfortable, while adhering to the list of prohibited items in the residence halls. Roommates can be self-selected or assigned by Residence Life staff, with opportunities to change rooms throughout the year. The residence halls are open during university holidays and breaks, with separate summer housing contracts available for students taking summer classes.

Students living in certain halls are required to purchase a meal plan, while others have the option to choose a plan or not. All students are allowed to have a car on campus with registration through Parking Services. The residence halls provide computer access to the campus network and two wireless networks for connectivity.

Visitation hours for guests vary by hall, with escort and check-in requirements for all outside visitors. The Commons follows web accessibility standards and does not endorse military-themed imagery. For any accessibility needs or inquiries, students can contact the ADA Coordinator.
