Reviews of The Rocket
"ONE VISIT SO MAYBE JUST BAD.....SOMETHING. I remarked on the lack of smoke from the pit when we walked through the parking lot. No good old Hickory+pig aroma either. THAT should have told me to turn around and seek lunch elsewhere.... I visited at lunch with a friend on a Wednesday and waited 30 minutes for 2 orders of a cheeseburger, fries and slaw. Burger was BIG, fries excellent. Slaw was waaayyyyy too sweet. Sugar should not go in slaw. The burger was huge with an enormous slather of mayo, or 'salad dressing' like miracle whip. Too much. Patty was unseasoned and not hot. I had figured that was what took so long- they were cooking giant burgers to order. Nope. If I had to guess, folks that order for 'here' get pushed to the end of the line to speed up GO orders. Dunno. Plenty of happy diners, plenty of business. Maybe they just don't like unfamiliar faces. The two stars for service are for a half hour wait with no explanation. Staff seemed happy and competent. Atmosphere is either 'Retro' or just tired and dirty. Tasty, timely food would have leaned me to 'Retro', but if we're honest it's clear there hasn't been any money spent on the building or decor in 40 years. Usually I'm not a stickler for appearances but when the food is poor what else is there?"
"The Rocket is a local favorite for me. When I was younger, my family would purchase some type of meal or snack when we would come visit my grandmother in Jacksonville. The Rocket was relatively on the restaurant list from time to time. The food has always been good here."
"We ordered 2 hamburger steaks (which have always come smothered with gravy & onions) but still we specified that we wanted them that way. We got them to go, and they were tied up in a bag when we picked them up. The orders there are normally right so we had no reason to doubt they would be this time. When we got home the hamburger steak had no gravy. We called them to see if they could remake them, because by the time we drove back down there the food would be cold. We were told (quite rudely) that they could not remake them, that our gravy was sitting on the counter and it was our fault we didn't get it. Supposedly the person we talked to was the owner or manager, whoever was in charge. He was extremely rude. The gravy was NOT sitting with the food we picked up, and why wouldn't it have been in the bag with the rest of it? He was also very rude to my husband when he went back down there to pick it up. Or why wouldn't it have been ON the steak? Once we got it home it didn't taste like the gravy that is normally on the steak, I don't know if it's because it's normally cooked on the steak or what. We normally eat there at least twice a week but after being treated like this we won't be back."
"Absolutely excellent! This was my first trip here and it was exactly what I was hoping for it to be. The atmosphere suggests locally owned, old school restaurant and that's exactly what I wanted. The food was exacl6as described in all of the other other reviews. Very filling! Very tasty! And the prices aren't outrageous. I will definitely be back and I would absolutely recommend this place to others."
"30 minute detour off our main drive home from Gwinnett County, Georgia was worth it. BBQ, fries, corn nuggets were all delicious, as well as the bottomless tea. We could not finish our meals; the servings were very plentiful. Owners, Patsy and Gary(?) were great hosts, too. All of the young ladies at the counter were very pleasant and friendly, which makes the visit even better. Service was excellent."
