1885 Grill Ooltewah - Cambridge Square

"My wife and I had Valentine's dinner at 1885 grill in Ooltewah, Tennessee. We endured last available seating upstairs on outside balcony with clear plastic wrapped curtains, which did have heaters available but were not in use during our stay. We could have eaten at the bar which was not reserved. We shared appetizers which were delicious, deviled eggs with candied bacon sprinkles and fried zucchini fritters. However, my filet mignon ordered medium was chewy with little flavor. I did order the bearnaise sauce on the side. Fingerling potatoes and carrots were good. Of course, the shared dessert was red velvet brownie alamode. We considered this meal below par because of the entree not as tender as expected for the price and could not order other beef alternatives that day, we asked, like ribeye steak which my wife would have preferred."

"Updated per last visit. Ordered steak Frites with brandy gravy over mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. I believe had the dish been warm, or even hot, it would have been 4 stars. However, since the gravy was congealed and the food stone cold, nope! They had no help on Tuesday night. If ChikfilA can fill up a restaurant with 40 employees, why can’t 1885 get 20 or 30? I’ll still come to eat here, just not as often. We ordered the trout and eggs, skirt steak, Philly cheese steak filet and two bananas foster. Faith was our waitress. Service was top-notch; we knew Faith from Fulins and she’s a pro and extremely attentive but not intrusive. The Philly was excellent with tender filet, generous portion, not enough onions and peppers but a very good aioli sauce. We split it and it was plenty for two. The banana foster was terrific with an appropriately crispy waffle, splendid caramel sauce and fresh whipped cream. I highly recommend this dish. The steak and fries was good. Trout and eggs was a disappointment with a flavorless trout and runny eggs. Usually the trout is seasoned in a blackened fashion. Overall was a four star. Ask for Faith!"

"Kind of a cool vibe in this sorta Southern food joint. For appetizers we got green fried tomatoes which were ok. The okra was ok. My shrimp and crawfish Cajun style was excellent! I really enjoyed it ( and I’m a northern guy). My friend liked his crab cakes sandwich. Service was ok"

"The food was pretty good. The wings and gumbo were delicious from what my friend said, I had the fried green tomatoes and those were phenomenal but they had so many toppings on them, the crab cake burger was lacking a bit of flavor surprisingly. I went on a very busy night and our waitress was still pretty attentive. Very serious bar energy with multiple TVs, and an outdoor patio area."
